Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I'm not talking about bedtime - but the last two nights I had Jack in bed with me as I was watching TV and I have to say - I LOVED it! I am hoping he is too young to be worried about starting any bad habits. I put him into the bassinet once it's time to go to sleep but there is nothing I love more though then being cuddled up next to him.
Am I just setting myself up for disaster down the road - or is he still too little to worry about it?

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I co-slept with my son and it was hard to get him in his own bed. With that said, I co-sleep with Emma and probably will for quite a while. Eventhough her crib is in my room, it's just easier for me, especially when that binky falls out 12 times a night!

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I like it to, but I try not to do it unless we are really want him to go back to sleep. It amazes me how well he sleeps in bed with us.
We are a little crowded though, we have a full bed, DH is 6'3", then me, Christopher and Maggie

We have a King Size Bed and it gets tight between me, DH, Jack and the dog. This morning we brought him into bed with us and I swear I was hanging off the side because the dog was sprawled out across half of the bed.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
This is probably a stupid question, but what are the logistics of co-sleeping? Where does the baby go? Do you and DH just have 1 pillow each? (currently, I sleep with 4 pillows, which I know I would need to lose if we ever co-slept!). Does the baby lay between you two? For some reason, I just can't picture it.

My DS will sleep nest to the wall or between DH and I. There's still plenty of room, we don't feel crowded at all. We both use 1 pillow each, the Tempurpedic ones.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
At night, DS is in his crib. But at 5:30-6:00 when he's up, I go in, change is diaper, and bring him into our bed. I lay with him as he drinks his bottle and just snuggle with him till I have to get up at 6:30. Its the best!

I don't have a husband so it works out great I have a king size bed and I sleep with 3 pillows. She sleeps on the inside, and I sleep on the outside.
With my son, I was married at the time, so he just slept in between us, and I didn't use that many pillows back then.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I was actually going to post about this - - DD is 13 mths and has started waking in the midle of the night. I started bringing her in bed because she fell back to sleep quickly and since I was exhausted - it worked out ok...but now...2 weeks later...shes gotten up at 2 am every night and wont stop crying till I take her in bed with me. I think Ive started a bad habit... I LOVE snuggling with her ----but I just feel like when the time comes, I wont be able to break this habit--------?

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
Sleeping with the baby in the bed with me makes me sooooo nervous. We have done it on bad nights or too earlly mornings but I am so nervous that we might hurt him

I love it too, Julia is still in bed with us! I love co-sleeping with her, and I feel I will miss her show much when she goes into her own room/bed.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I love having Milan next to me. We dont sleep with him in the bed everynight. But i love having him next to me and he loves it too. He actually sleeps better and longer when he is in the bed with DH and I. He loves for me to touch his nose with my nose i think that closeness soothes him.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I put DS in bed with me in the morning after he wakes up. Having him sleep with me at night is not a habit I want to start. I have heard horror stories about my friends kids who sleep in bed with them and find it virtually impossible to get them out. Plus, isn't it hard to have a sex life with DH with a baby or older children sleeping in bed with you every night? JMO.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I always wonder how people do it too.
If I bring him in the bed, I take the pillows off the bed except for one and let him lay flat up against my arm.
Or I use the snuggle nest thingy we have , place that on the bed and him inside it, but he doesnt like it mush.
Otherwise Im too afarid he will fall over into a pillow or I will roll over on him . I dont think I would, but I have heard of it happening too many times to be too secure with it.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
I wouldn't worry about it. If your not doing it all the time, I don't think you will have trouble.
Jordana loves to play on our bed- at 15 months old, I am not worried. When she cries, we put her in bed with us since she was young, and she never had trouble sleeping in her crib.

I co-slept with my dd from around 1 month to almost a year. I tried not to, but she would not sleep on her own and after a month, realizing I had to go back to work in 2 weeks I just gave in. I will say I loved having her close, and it was so easy since I breastfed her at night. And, we were so lucky, she pretty much "weaned" herself out of the bed, at around a year she started getting fussy and not wanting to stay in the bed, we put her in her crib and she only cried the first night. But I know we were probably lucky, I honestly thought we would never get to use the crib at all or that it would be torture to transition her to the crib. And now that she's out, I will say although the first few nights were probably harder on me than on her, I am now so glad we have our nights back!
To answer the question, we put her between us, and in the beginning we also used a sleep positioner to try to prevent her from rolling around (or us rolling onto her). I slept with my arm over her head because she liked to scoot up and I didn't want her to get caught under my pillow.

Re: Having Babies Sleep in Bed with you
we had Ella in our bed last night and it was torturous! I loved having her so close but neither Al nor I got any sleep. E slept, well, like a baby.
She hadn't slept with us in months, and I don't see it happening again any time soon. She's used to moving and flipping around all night, and she kept us up while she slept soundly.
She also woke at 6am all excited to play with us . Fortunately she went right back to sleep (in her crib) after some milk, and slept till 10:30 while we caught some shut eye.

We've co-slept with all of our children. Both of our daughters (4 & 2) left our bed on their own and haven't come back unless they were sick or scared. We actually miss snuggling with thm, and were sad when they left the bed.

I was so exhausted this morning, that is exactly what I did... we slept together for about 2 hours (but it is not the same, every noise that he made woke me up so you are not really sleeping)
