Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
We paid about $6000 for 10 days in Hawaii...5 days in Kauai, 5 in Maui, and one night stopover in San Francisco.

After you factor in eating, drinking and excursions?

Would you consider a cruise? You could definitely do it and stay within your budget.

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
I think it can be done! We didn't pay for airfare or lodging and spetn around $2,500 for two weeks on food, excursions, rental cars, and interisland flights (and we didn't skimp at all).
I'd call a travel agent and see what kind of package they can put together for you. We used miles/points so we booked everything ourselves.

I would say yes, but only if you can use miles for the airfare.

Yes -- DH and I went there for our HM. We went to Kauai and Maui. Although we spent $2K more, we definately could've done it for less. We splurged a lot.

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
absolutely.... check out dawn from cruiseone we went on our HM to hawaii, one week in maui one week in kauai we stayed at the hyatt on both islands, had breakfast daily for two, airfare (including the inter-island air as well) for about 6600. we spent a ton while we were there but it was our HM and what the he!l but you can definitely definitely do it for less than 8k... we will be doing this exact trip again in 2 years or so
ETA I think that also included the car rental on each island.. but we ended up paying more into that because we upgraded the car.

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
Definitely.
We went for our honeymoon. Stopping in different places, It went like this.
2 nights in San Fran 3 nights in ohau Partial ocenview 3 nights in Kaui partial oceanview POOL view 3 nights in Maui Oceanview 2 nights in Las Vegas.
flew interisland, snorkeled went on two boats (besides the snorkeling one) one was a dinner cruise in Oahu One was a sunset ride in Maui. Rented a car in Kaui, Jeep in Maui. Helicopter ride in Kaui
Stayed at all Hyatts (except for Vegas) and since we stayed at Hyatts during our stay on the 3 islands we got free breakfast (it was 40.00 a day otherwise) And insurance.
Id say just for that stuff we paid 7000.00 maybe a little more.
We said when we were there for our 5th anniversary we will be back, Only 2 and a half years to go.
We wanted to break up the trip a little and thats why we stopped in san fran and vegas on the way back. Otherwise it's 11 hours.

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
I've priced this out and much like you guys I have found the hotel and air to be around $6K..add everything else and it's close to 8K. I would want to go for two weeks.
I would want to splurge too and it's not our honeymoon but I think that if you make the trip you should enjoy yourself and not worry about the money so much. That is one long-azz trip!
Having said that, I think we found our destination. I really appreciate all of your help and insight.

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
Hawaii is so amazing. we LOVED Maui. It would be my dream to live there! I say if you are going do everything you want! 8000.00 is a lot of money and if you are going to spend that much if something is a couple of hundred dollars more splurge and do it!
I was so HAPPY with the Hyatts and totally recomend them. Originally we wanted to stay in really expensive hotels (not that they hyatts were cheap ) but our travel agent (Emily at Liberty Travel in Levittown) really talked to us and told us it might be better to stay here because some of the hotels we wanted to stay at were far away from a lot of the things we wanted to do. And the hyatts were beautiful! And I know it sounds silly but the breakfast was really good Plus they gave you so much food that it you weren't hungry tll dinner.
Here are some pics...
View from our room in Oahu.
View from the lobby in Oahu
This was the lobby
We also went to Pearl Harbor.
Some Kaui
This was the view from our room in Kaui
View from our room Maui
They had a swim up grotto bar
This was past the pool

Re: Hawaii-can it be done?
your pictures are absolutely breath taking. Hawaii surely is beautiful.
We were planning our vacation for about $5K all in so this is a lot more.
We have some other expenditures and have to stay in a budget, but I think that $5K is plenty to spend.
Maybe next year for our 10th anniversary!

Absolutely, we went for our HM and used miles for the airfare. Can't remember what we spent in total, but even with airfare I'd think you can do it for under 8k.
You'll love it!
