head circumference...ever an issue?
Has anyone's ped ever mentioned anyting about the circumference of your baby's head?
The doc yesterday said we have to monitor ds, but not to worry. How could I not worry? He also asked me if me and dh have big heads? I never noticed I told him...then he told me I do.

what? How can you control how big your ds head gets? Why is this an issue?

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
I can't see why you would be told to monitor it!! What are you supposed to do?
Jake has big head (90th percentile) but it's proportionate to his height percentile so they told us there's no need to worry.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
It's only an issue for me during birth.
As long as their head & body grow proportionately you should be fine.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
they said that it is growing I guess at a fast speed and that if it continues it might mean fluid in the brain
So he continued to ask me developmental questions I guess to see if he was at risk
-does he wave bye bye? uh no was one of the questions.. I think he was an idiot...
The babies pacifier fell on the floor and he told me "I would not put that back in his mouth without washing it" no **** Sherlock!

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
We haven't but our friend's two children both had huge heads and they are just fine. I wouldn't worry . These two kids are 3 and 1 and still have fairly large heads but I think they are so cute.

If this helps, my ped asked developmental questions at every single appointment we've ever had.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
My DD has a large head as well, the doctor says she's following her "own" curve on the chart! But she is also in the 90 and 95th percentile for height and weight. She never said anything that we should be concerned.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
my sister son who just turned 1 head is off the chart, her ped sent her to get a sonogram, she is a nurse and didnt think there was anything wrong, but did it to because she wanted to rule out anything.
everything is fine, I am happy to report.
maybe you can ask Ped to do sonogram to make you feel better, they do it on the babies soft spot.
good luck

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
My daughter has always been 90% for head circ, (DH has a big head) and 75% for height, 50% for weight and her ped has never really commented. Although they always ask developmental questions.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
The same thing happened to my son. When he was born, his head measured 50th %. However, by the time he was 7 months, his head was measuring 95% and growing off the curve. The doctor wanted to rule out hydrocephalus (water on the brain), so we had an MRI and all was fine.
BTW. My DH and DS have huge noggins, just like the rest of his family.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
When my niece was born, she had a huge Charlie Brown head - perfectly round, but huge! It measured off the charts. The doctor told my sister-in-law the same thing you were told, and she was so upset about it. They sent her for a test (MRI maybe, can't remember) and everything was fine. She just had a big head. I say "had" a big head because she's nine years old now and her head is just fine.

Re: head circumference...ever an issue?
My whole family has HUGE heads. My 2 neices were born with big heads. We wonder how the 3 year old's tiny body holds her big head. They are adorable however. I've always been self concious of my big head. My brother had to go to a neurologist as a kid (he's epeleptic, nothing to do with the size of his head by the way) and my mom heard one of the nurses whisper to the doc, "Here comes the family with the big heads: I'm sure your son is fine
