Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

We're leaving Friday afternoon.

Here are my burning questions:

1. Logan will ONLY take warm bottles. He's completely on milk now, but how on earth do I warm them up in the airport and at Disney?

2. What do I pack to bring with me in the park each day?

3. How do I keep him entertained on the plane? It's Jetblue so we'll have TVs, but sometimes that's not enough.

4. How many bottles do I pack?

5. How many diapers do I pack?

6. Does anyone know a good sherpa to carry all this CR@P???

7. Does anyone know a good therapist to handle my current panic attack about this??? (Or, in lieu of that, a stiff drink?)

HELP!!!

I'm sorry I don't have much specific advice for you, but wanted to offer some sympathy...

We are going at the end of June with our 2 1/2 year old who is the absolute PICKIEST eater on the planet. He eats things like hot dogs and fries, but only certain brands! He is going to starve himself for sure for the first 2 days, then hopefully he will settle down and eat.

You have it easy with the milk Chat Icon

I would like a mule or a helper or a nanny to help me on my way as well. A few days I will be at the parks alone with DS (GASP!!!) - my DH will be attending a conference in the orlando area.

Good luck and be sure to post your reviews when you're back! Chat Icon

Well, I think it will be fine.

I wonder if you can ask to warm the milk on the plane and in the airport in a restaurant microwave? Same in the parts at a counter?

As for the diapers, we took a 7 day cruise with an extra day on the end and I brought a 40 pack of Luvs and I had a TON extra (I brought 8 overnights and then swim diapers too).

I am jealous!! If we go to Disney, we have to visit MIL tooChat Icon

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

Good lord woman, you're stressing me out!

1. Logan will ONLY take warm bottles. He's completely on milk now, but how on earth do I warm them up in the airport and at Disney? -

hot water under a sink OR you could always go to any coffee shop and ask for a cup of hot water and stick the bottle in it. Or have the microwave it.

2. What do I pack to bring with me in the park each day? sunscreen, snacks, diapers, wipes, bottles, water, small blanket?, sweater or something if it gets chilly later in the day

3. How do I keep him entertained on the plane? It's Jetblue so we'll have TVs, but sometimes that's not enough.

matthew is thoroughly entertained by cheerios. I swear he'd eat the entire box if I let him. books work too.

4. How many bottles do I pack?
enough for 1 day plus one bottle and wash them at night (maybe bring a bottle brush and really small bottle of dishwasher soap). But i'll be honest, i'm a chronic overpacker so in reality I would bring every bottle I own.

5. How many diapers do I pack?

one package of 64

6. Does anyone know a good sherpa to carry all this CR@P???

no help there....i'd get a u-haul if it were me

7. Does anyone know a good therapist to handle my current panic attack about this??? (Or, in lieu of that, a stiff drink?)

why yes I do on both

Oh for bottles, which does he take? We brought 2 Avent Tempo bottles and 100 liners, of which I still have 50 in my kitchen and he doesn't take bottles anymore.

I think that is way too many! You can always buy or order more..It is really annoying to pack diapers.

Hey Lauren... no advice from me... but would it help you to know that I am currently in the exact same state of panic!

Does it help to know that you are not alone?

We are leaving Friday night to drive down to NC and what are we doing right now instead of packing all our crap???

I am sitting here procrastinating on LIF and DH is playing Call of Duty 4!

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

Please keep in mind that the advice that I am giving you is from experience with flying with my DD who is 3.5 months old.

1. Logan will ONLY take warm bottles. He's completely on milk now, but how on earth do I warm them up in the airport and at Disney? When I was sitting at the airport, I made sure that I had taken a bottle out of the bottle bag, and as I sat with her, I held it in between my legs. The other thing that you may want to look into is one of the bottle warmers that are in a gel pack. U push on a button or something to that effect, and it warms the bottle.

2. What do I pack to bring with me in the park each day? I would pack what I normally pack in the diaper bag, with the addition of hats, sunscreen, and maybe some extra juice bottles.

3. How do I keep him entertained on the plane? It's Jetblue so we'll have TVs, but sometimes that's not enough. Bring toys that you can easily store in the diaper bag that are small enough, but that will entertain him well enough.

4. How many bottles do I pack? I would make sure to have at least 6. That way if you have to rush and do something, and don't have time to wash one or 2, u will be safe.

5. How many diapers do I pack? If you don't want to go out of Disney to buy them, I would suggest bringing at least 7 for each day. If you don't mind buying them when you get there, bring what you will need for the duration of the flight plus 1 day.

6. Does anyone know a good sherpa to carry all this CR@P??? hahahahahahahaaaaa

7. Does anyone know a good therapist to handle my current panic attack about this??? (Or, in lieu of that, a stiff drink?) I highly suggest an apple martini!

HELP!!!

Another thing that I might suggest which was a lifesaver to me - and I'm not sure if he's still small enough to fit in one, but, I brought my sling with me which, once K fell asleep for a nap (since she was on my lap during the flight) I was able to put her in it so that I was able to close my eyes as well.

Ask Lillykat. She has a sleeve thingy for the bottle that she presses a button and it warms up the milk. I am not sure where she got it but it was nice.

Bottles - either warm them up in the bathroom or get one of those gel packs they sell at BRU.

In the park: sunscreen, snacks, water spritzer, bottles, change of clothes, towel.

On the plane - does Jetblue have a Noggin type channel? We had our portable dvd player and that worked like a charm. Also - a TON of snacks. Some of his favorite toys. DS loved just looking out the window and that killed 30 minutes. Also - at one point - a random woman sitting behind me asked if she could hold him bc he was so cute - I gladly passed him along. How many bottles to pack? I would bring however many he takes each day - and then wash them at night.

Diapers - figure out how many he wears on a normal day - and up it about 10 for the entire trip. Also - are you bringing Swimmies for him?

You'll be just fine! And - don't forget - you can always drink on the plane!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

We are going to Disney in 10 days. I ordered diapers, food and formula on diapers.com and am having it shipped to the hotel.

I figure I will take enough bottles for 24 hours and diapers for 24 hours. I will contact the hotel to make sure the diapers are there before we arrive.

I am going to pack enough clothing for 2 changes of clothes for DS for each day and some extras. I have swim diapers, hats, sun lotion, sunglasses and two pairs of shoes for him. I am going to pack in a cary on two outfits and a bathing suit for each of us. The rest of it will go in the luggage. As for warm bottles, just ask for hot water and put the bottle in it.

I would get something to put food and bottles in to take into the parks.
I hope you have a great trip!

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

We went to Disney with DD when she was 6 months old. At all the parks there are "baby care" centers. They were great-there are private nursing rooms, bottle warmers, the cleanest changing tables, highchairs, tv, and they sell other items you may have forgotten. They are on all the park "maps"

If you need anymore info on them fm meChat Icon

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

Thank you everyone!!

I didn't think about swimmies and didn't know they had portable bottle warmers!!

Guess I'm headed to BRU tomorrow!!

What makes it all the more complicated is that DH and I are going down there for a work conference.

So from Sunday night to Wednesday morning we are in meetings/teambuilding events.

So my ILs are coming down with us and watching Logan when we're in meetings. I need to make EXTRA sure everything is well packed and prepared because they are so useless if things aren't exactly spelled out!!

We're leaving Friday afternoon.

Here are my burning questions:

1. Logan will ONLY take warm bottles. He's completely on milk now, but how on earth do I warm them up in the airport and at Disney?

You can get a cup of hot water and put the bottle in the water for a few minutes that is what I do when I forgot my heater and was giving cold BM. They do sell heat packs made by lionheart that are fabulous you don't have to plug them in just click this metal disk and they heat up - the problem with using them when traveling is that they have to be boiled to reset so I don't think that will work if you are staying in a hotel - and not sure if you will get past security with it. The hot water you can get at any restaurant, fast food place at the airport, or counter service restaurant at your hotel or park -

2. What do I pack to bring with me in the park each day?

I would bring a change of clothes, extra diapers, wipes, snacks, suntan lotion, maybe bug spray if it is buggy, sippy cups or bottles depending on what he drinks. Some people put together a zip lock bag with baby utensils for meals, sippy cup, and one of those sticky placemats for the tables. Rain poncho (you can get a cheap kids one at walmart then cut it to his size. If you are bringing your own stroller don't forget a rain cover for unexpected downpours, and maybe a towel in case the stroller or he gets wet. Sweater or blanket b.c the air conditioners are VERY high. Hat that stays on, and an extra if he looses it. Something for him to play with if you are in a long line.

if you are going to a water park - swimmies and a suit.

3. How do I keep him entertained on the plane? It's Jetblue so we'll have TVs, but sometimes that's not enough.

How about going to the dollar or the toy store and buying some cheap small gifts and pull one out at a time when he gets bored with the tv's. Snacks always work, some books.

Did you ask your ped about what you can do for his ears during take off and landing if he seems uncomfortable?

4. How many bottles do I pack?

You could bring only what you need for each day - then if you get a sponge I have read you can cut them up and put soap on them then let them dry so you have sponges you can wet with soap to wash them ever evening. Or just bring a travel size/sample size soap and a bottle brush. If he takes sippy cups - how about the take and toss ones?

5. How many diapers do I pack?

I would figure a few more than per day than he usually goes thru (there are several places in the parks that have interactive fountains that the kids play in and so his might get soaked.

How about ordering some stuff and diapers so you don't have to carry them with you - people use - http://gardengrocer.com/ - it is like peapod and you can have them deliver to your hotel under your name - in fact this is great b.c you can order breakfast and eat it in the room - as well as ordering milk (depending on where you are staying you might have a small fridge). Bell services will keep the items cold if you are not there to receive them. I have read a lot of people use them. If you have a car - which we will when we go - we plan to just do a grocery shop - much easier than carrying diapers that take up a lot of room with you.

6. Does anyone know a good sherpa to carry all this CR@P???

Chat Icon sorry can't help you there - I think we will be bringing at least 2 sherpas with us... - actually we purposefully chose a stroller with a bigger basket for this reason. We just won't leave anything of value in the stroller - just diapers, sippys etc.

7. Does anyone know a good therapist to handle my current panic attack about this??? (Or, in lieu of that, a stiff drink?)

Chat Icon Chat Icon Stiff drinks always work for me Chat Icon

I found a tremendous amount of helpful tips for traveling with kids under 1- 24 months - on this site - disboards There is a families section on there and I constantly see tips for parents traveling with young kids - such as what to do with them on the plane, what to bring to the parks, a lot of the exact questions you just asked

I hope you all have a fabulous trip!!!!!! I would love to hear some of your tips when you get back. I'm trying to work out what we will need and get it together in advance for our trip in September.

You can buy milk in juice box like things. They are in either in the juice box section or the baking isle....I keep these handy for my morning coffee. My children have a bad habit of finishing the milk on me...and you dont want to deal with me if I havent had my caffeine.

Re: Headed to Disney for a week and feeling REALLY unprepared.

The baby care centers are great but there is only 1 in every park. In Magic Kingdom it is right off Main Street...so if you are in the back of the park and it is time for him to eat you will have to go back to Main Street for the Baby Care center. The restaruants will not let you use the microwave. When I was there Hayley was 1 and still eating the Gerber Graduates. No one would heat them up for me. Defininetly get some sort of portable bottle warmer. She was on whole milk and drank it cold so I didn't have to worry about that.

Have Fun!!!!!

1. You can walk up to most venders/restaurants and just ak for a cup of hot water. They are really nice about it. Also there is a baby center at every park with microwaves, spoons, bowls, etc. Even tthe value resorts have microwaves available in the cafeteria

2. Extra set of clothes, diapers sunscreen, hat.

3. Be prepared on the plane. Bring clorox wipes because he will touch every thing and planes are never cleaned well. Bring a bunch of small toys and keep switching them. Be prepared with a bottle or sippy so that he can drink during take off and landing to alleviate ears popping.

4. I packed enough for 8 diapers per day and stuck them anywhere they could fit. I did not leave them in their bag. Don't forget swimmy diapers (1-2 per day)

5. I would pack one bottle per day and bring some a small bottle of dish washing detergent.

You will have a great time and remember they do have stores in and around disney. If you have a freezer pack they will keep it frozen for you every night at luggage claim. If you can get to the store down their you will save a pretty penny on water!
