health insurance/maternity leave

I am ready to scream - I have been back to work since 8/6 & was just told today that I owe my firm 268.87 for my weekly health insurance payment. Even though I wasn't getting a paycheck (I was on disability) I have to pay it! Now they tell me! Anyone else's job make them pay??Chat Icon

Re: health insurance/maternity leave

I know my old company made you pay anything that they had to pay for you (i.e. health premiums if you had any for family since they paid for the employee). That is wrong that they didn't tell you that upfront - I know my old company would work out some sort of repayment plan with their employees - is there anyway you could work something like that out so you don't have to pay it all back at once?

Re: health insurance/maternity leave

yes we make our employees pay the premiums while they are one leave. But they are told up front. They have the option to pay bi-weekly or all in one lump sum when they come back or we will take it out of other paychecks when they return. This is decided before they go out though.

Re: health insurance/maternity leave

I had to pay a month's worth of insurance after my 60 day FMLA expired. For the month, I had to pay $1200.Chat Icon I knew upfront though.

Re: health insurance/maternity leave

I know - the upfront part is what makes me angry! If I had known in May, I would have made the arrangements to pay. Now, things are tight - my DH is on workers' comp., so it's not so easy when every penny counts! They will do a "payment plan" & take it out weekly, so, that's what I'll have to do.

How irritating to have to worry about this now. They really should have told you upfront.

I am sorry you have to worry about thisChat Icon

Re: health insurance/maternity leave

I was only told while on Maternity leave. I received a letter stating that I needed to pay my health premium directly to the company to maintain my coverage.

Since I was off payroll while on STD, they cannot deduct the premium from your paycheck.

I wish I had been told too instead of finding out in a letter.
