Heating/Temp question
what do you keep yours set at? I know power companies recommend leaving it at 68 all the time and each degree lower than that you can see 3-5% difference in your bill.
We leave ours at 64 and if we're cold we bump it up to 66.

Re: Heating/Temp question
We keep it at 68 when we are home (5am-9am), then it drops to 60 during the day...goes back to 68 for evening (4pm-11pm) and back down to 60 while we sleep.

Re: Heating/Temp question
We keep our's at 60 when we sleep and when no one is home. And 65 when we are home (but I think we may have to bump that to 66 since it's going to get so cold!) We have radiators, had it set to 67 yesterday and I almost passed out it was so hot when I got home from work!

Re: Heating/Temp question
This is one thing I love about my house. Its VERY efficient.
I can set it at 64 on the 1st floor... and the actual temperature in the floor will be around 69.
Upstairs is a different story.. gets much colder up there so I would have to set that zone higher. But right now we aren't living up there so there is no need to waste oil.
My previous owner said he only burned 640 gallons of oil all last year... and now I believe him.

Re: Heating/Temp question
Right now since we arent living in the house I keep it t 60. But after friday when we move in I will leave it t 64 or 65 when we are home and 60 when we are out for the day....At night I put the heat down to 60 too.
Right now the heat upstairs is not working. I mean it isnt controlled by the thermostat. We are having it fixed this week....hopefully.
Worse comes to worse, I will turn the heat on upstairs for a few hours and shut it off before bedtime., if it doesnt get fixed this week.

Re: Heating/Temp question
I don't understand why people turn it up when it's colder out, if it's set to keep the house at 67, the system just has to work harder to get it there. So turning it up will actually raise the usual temp in your house and make the system work even harder.
Am I missing something?

Pretty much the same here. Except we used to keep it at 62 overnight but the baby's room was too cold, so we bumped it to 64.

My house is old and drafty. The extra degree just makes me feel warmer.

Re: Heating/Temp question
I guess I must have cold blood because I keep it at 70 when I am at home. We have set it for 65 during the day when we are at work but as soon as I come home for lunch, I move it up as it is freezing. We just got new windows, siding and roof so it is just me. I like it warm!!

We're the same. We have it on 70 when we are home and 65 when we're not.

Re: Heating/Temp question
Downstairs - 68 during the day and evenings (if we are home), 63/64 at night
Upstairs - 60 during the day, 68 at night - though it doesn't turn on that often since our house is open and gets heat from downstairs

Same here, and it just depends on the house. Its not an exact science. If its bitterly cold I could put it to 70 just to keep the house warm, whereas if it was warmer out like 40, 70 would be too much. Last year I was in my neighbors house and she said her thoermostat was at 67 it was nice and toasty, surley not the same 67 in my house.
To answer the question: 67-68 day and 65 night.
Also we have two zone heating, which is normally fabulous. Except in my house. Because we have an big open staircase to the upstairs I notice if I set the downstairs to 63 at night, all that cold air finds its way upstairs. If I keep the two zones close to the same it is much more even.
