Heavy cream for extra calories?
DS is 19 months and is underweight (not even on the charts). Somebody told me to add heavy cream to his milk. Has anybody ever done this and know how much I should be giving him?

Re: Heavy cream for extra calories?
I have not tired or heard of heavy cream in milk but DD is very petite also - right now we are trying to hold onto the 5th percentile for weight. Some things I feed her every single day or add to her food is
butter - on waffles/ pancakes ect... add cheese to her eggs each morning avocado - she eats at least half an avocado a day hummus for a snack at least once a day

Re: Heavy cream for extra calories?
What did your doctor suggest? That sounds unhealthy to me. Can you give him Pediasure instead, or good fats?

Re: Heavy cream for extra calories?
When my dr was a little worried abou t DS's weight I would add a tablespoon or 2 to his milk. That would add 50-100 extra calories.
I thought pediasure was too sugary to give DS. (it's the 2nd ingredient) and I didnt want him to get used to drinking sugary drinks.
the dr actually suggested adding butter to a lot of meals and cooking things in oil. That did not sound healthy to me either. So I figured the cream wasn't a bad option. The dr said that was fine.
We were lucky though because he also liked to dip a lot of food in hummus so that helped with calories too.

Re: Heavy cream for extra calories?
from a ped dietitian this is not a good way to go. You don't need high saturated fat items to add wt to child.
How has growth been? Is child falling off growth curve?

Re: Heavy cream for extra calories?
I just started adding 2 tablespoons of heavy cream to both boys milk. They are 15% for weight and 95% height. Too skinny! They are so active I think they need extra calories
