Hello lovelies...I have questions...
I always knew I liked you all for a reason...here I am with questions from this side...
Not sure if you have followed, but we recently got some bad news and DH starts treatment (chemo) next week.
We're in the process of "preserving our future family" and I was wondering, do I have to go through IVF in the future in order to get PG?
Is that what it's called officially...
Thank you all...and to you all!

I'm sorry Rose!! We're dealing with really bad & serious stuff and humor is all we have to get through it. I won't refer to it as that...
Is it IVF if his spermies have to reach me any way but natural?
Is there somewhere I can go and look this up.

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
You can do IUI or IVF with frozen sperm...
I guess it depends on many factors...

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
If its determined at the time that DH has no more living sperm left after treatment, you will need to use the frozen ones. You can do either IUI( which is where a catheter deposits the sperm into your uterus) or IVF which is where they eggs are retrieved from you and fertilized in a dish with DH;s sperm and placed back into your uterus once they are fertilized. Thats just the basics of course.
Good luck to you and DH of course! Will be praying for you.

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
there is somehting called IUI when they just inject the sperm directly into the uterus. The odds are much smaller than IVF so unless he is freezing numerous samples I would think your doctor would suggest IVF.
I hope I didnt make you feel bad, I know you are going through alot, and again many to you both.
Its just that alot of us are way past the point where we can see any humor in this. Yes, I agree that humor does wonders for healing, but at least for me thats too close to home. I know you didnt mean it in a bad way so I understand.

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
I completely understand that...and I'm sorry about the comment. I'll edit because I would hate to offend anyone else.
It's not an ideal situation for anyone to be going through...and for us, when we're just starting to plan on family and TTC, it was even harder. This whole thing is pretty hard and unbelievable, actually.
The fact that this is life.
But it does go on and I have faith that it'll make us stronger.
Thank you for the info. So IUI or IVF can be used. I thought it was just IVF, that's great to know.
And the chances of him having any living sperm post treatment are nearly zero.
Thanks all.
And much dust!!

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
I too wanted to say it's understandable that your not "prepared" or know much about IF treatments, and its a damn shame you have to .
I will as always keep you and your husband especially in my prayers. Hes gonna beat this thing and you will have a family someday soon, by whatever means it takes!

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
Sasha I have a friend whose DH has MS. When he found out about the MS he immediately froze his sperm. This was before he had even met my friend - I think he was pretty young at the time.
Anyway fast forward to last year, they get married, both 40 years old - she does 1 IUI at NYU and gets pg but miscarries. 3 months later they try again and she now has adorable twin boys.
She told me that NYU was the only clinic that would use her DH's frozen sperm - frozen from a while ago that is, and that they hadn't frozen in their own clinic.
I would definitely speak with a reputable clinic NOW and see if you can do this..IUI or IVF, not so important yet, but getting the frozen sperm is.
Good luck!!

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
Sasha,
I already FM'd you my SIL and BIL's story.
They did have to do IVF, but because his motility was low. So to risk using the only sample they had on a IUI, which, like Donna said has a low probability, didn't make sense.
Wishing you all the luck strength and health in the world!

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
Thank you!
Yes, we've begun planning for the future, so we have taken the first step toward preserving his sperm. We finish up on Wednesday and chemo starts on Thursday. They'll have some samples and I hope that's enough.
I just never thought we would have to do this in order to have a family at such a young age. God has different plans for us all I guess.
I guess we'll have to save as well since I know it's costly.
Thank you all. I hope you all get your BFP's!

Re: Hello lovelies...I have questions...
sorry to here this about your DH ..wishing you the best
speaking from my experince since my DH went through major chemo and radiation(Hodgkins) many years ago and had sperm frozen 17 years...we had to do IVF..docters said that IUI is not very successful with frozen sperm at all...
needless to say IVF worked for us..
