Helmet Kids update
Some of you may remember my post the other night about the kids on my block who dont wear helmets or protective gear (and even no shoes) when they ride on their scooters, tricycles and Big Wheels. I wasnt sure which house they were coming from but now I do.
Well today, DH and I were leaving the house for dinner and we saw the little girl (about 4) come barreling out of a driveway on her Big Wheel right down the middle of the street with her brother right behind her on the scooter.
I couldn't take it anymore so I told the older kid to get her on the sidewalk before she got hit by a car and DH yelled for her to stop and get on the sidewalk. She may have been scared - DH is a big guy. Then I look down the block and see an adult (I can only assume it was a mother but it could have been anyone) come from behind the car in their driveway and motion to the kids to come back to her. I yelled "Get the kids on the sidewalk for G-d's sake. She could get hurt." She said nothing to me and when the lil girl got to her, she picked the kid up IN THE BIG WHEEL and put her on the sidewalk. Friggin genius I tell you.
I did what I could under the circumstances and I hope the adult got it this time, but if there is a next time, a face to face confrontation will happen. Had DH and I already been in our car when this little one going down the street, there is no question we would have hit her. We wouldnt have seen her because our car is too high.

Re: Helmet Kids update
I think Keanu Reeves said it best as the character Tod from Parenthood...
You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming azzhole be a father.
well in this case, be a mother.
At least you said something, hopefully it made some sort of impact.

Re: Helmet Kids update
I was really scared for this girl. Not to mention I live very close to a fire station and they often use my street to come down in emergencies. I don't get people. I really don't.

Re: Helmet Kids update
It's understandable that you would be scared for this kid, no 4 year old should be riding their big wheels in the middle of the street.
