HELP - my 3 week old is congested!
I used the bulb thingie and quite a bit of snot came out. She doesn't seem bothered by the congestion, but she sounds like a little piggy snorting.
Of course, the peds office is closed today, and I don't think this is an "emergency". Is there anything else I can do??
thanks!!

Re: HELP - my 3 week old is congested!
Newborns have a lot of mucus. My peds told me that it doesn't really bother them and that it works its way out. Just use the saline and the bulb. You can also leave her sitting up rather then lying her down. My twins slept in their car seats for a bit in the beginning to help them with their congestion.
HTH!

Use a humidifier when she sleeps. You can also use the saline drops for her. Our ped suggested not using the bulb, but the drops. I hope she feels better!

i agree.
tommy was really congested last week and we took him to the ped. they said to use saline drops at every feeding (he absolutely HATES them) and a cold mist humidifier when he sleeps. they said not to use the bulb too often!

They have them for babies in the cold medicine section.
Alex is stuffed up with a cold and we are doing all of the above, plus baby rub on her chest and feet. She is feeling much better!

Re: HELP - my 3 week old is congested!
At three weeks my daughter wasw so badly congested and wouldn't sleep. We did the saline drops and she HATED them. She would cry and gag and we felt miserable. I was in CVS looking for help when I cam across saline gel that you insert with a Qtip. It is called Ayr saline gel. I asked my doctor and he said to give it a try. This product has helped my daughter so much. I put it in her nose maybe twice a day- I don't even really have to do it that much. She is now 2 months old and when she sees it coming she just smiles and lets me do it. Sometimes she opens her mouth to try and eat it:) My doctor told me not to use the bulb thing. Between the gel and the qtip it helps her to sneeze anything in her nose out. I highly reccommend it.

is the bulb thing really bad? now I feel guilty that I used it . She seems much better, but going forward I'll just use the saline drops and a humidifier. she seems okay with the drops, otherwise I will switch to the gel.

Re: HELP - my 3 week old is congested!
the bulb is fine. Actually too many drops can overdry the nose... it's saline (salty water)
