Help ! Severe separation anxiety - heavy duty crate needed

Hi
My dog has severe separation anxiety - we have tried everything and nothing has worked. We have been bringing him with us in the car but once it gets warmer out, we can no longer do that

Does anyone know where I could get a used dog crate or is anyone selling one ? I need a heavy duty one like the proselect empire crate " Alcatraz of crates".

I don't have 500.00 right now to spend on a brand new one. Any suggestions ?

He has escaped out of every crate we have had, can open locks and doors and has even broke through glass windows. My husband is at his wits end and we don't want him to hurt himself.

He is the sweetest, most love able friendly dog !

Thanks !,

Try Craigslist. Also ask your vet for meds or consider calming supplements, thunder shirts, and phermone plug in diffusers near the crate. And start out very very slowly.

I wouldn't suggest leaving the thunder shirt on unsupervised though.

Thanks for your suggestions Traysee. We did try the thunder shirt and it didn't work. He escaped and cops found him. None of the calming sprays or pills work and he was on medication but he still escaped. We even tried natural raw diet etc and holistic remedies.

We are running out of options or ideas and its very stressful.

I have the Alcatraz. We were going to put it on craigslist. Let me know if you are interested.

We got an electric Fido's Fence. He was trained in 2 visits. It's a life saver.

Since you've explored so many other options I think meds might be the only alternative at this point. I am extremely anti meds but it sounds like this case is so severe you might want to consider some anti anxiety medication for the safety of the dog. Maybe down the line you can wean him off them but tearing out of crates and breaking through glass and wandering the streets is a lot more dangerous than the meds at this point. And believe me, it would be an absolute last resort in my mind!

Traysee - he is 8 years old

Radio lau - we did try medication and he was calmer but still had really bad anxiety. I forget what medication it was but it wasn't Prozac

You should consider taking your dog to a veterinary behaviorist. Dr. Lindell is highly recommended: http://www.lindellvetbehavior.org/
Here is the link to the American college of Vetinary Behaviorist website:
