HELP - wording on my annual review at work
I am currently working on my self-assessment at my job. I am trying to get the point accross that I am underpaid and think that I deserve a "sizable" raise. This is what I wrote in my annual review but I have not submitted it yet. any advice on the wording and content? TIA
I have enjoyed my time here at xxxxxx and have learned a great deal. The one issue I would like to discuss is salary. Based on my reviews from my peers and supervisors, I am effective in managing my time, working collaboratively and being a valuable member of the Internal Audit team. I think based on these reviews, my work experience and professional certifications, that my salary should be higher than it is currently. I have done some market research and have found that my current salary is not competitive with the market. I hope to be able to discuss this further with my AE.

I would recommend adding some specific examples of how you have gone above and beyond.

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
Can you discuss salary in those things? I thought it was just something to put in your file that includes everything that can't be seen on the regular report like ways that you are a valuable employee that aren't reviewed in other areas. . .
i work for the govt though so it may be different for us. . . i would never think to ask for a raise in there. I would just ask verbally

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
Ok, you asked our opinions
First off, kudos for being REALLY brave. I thought it was common practice to not put in writing anything about salary, in job hunting or reviews??
Still here’s a few ideas
Strike out the second sentence, it’s unnecessary as the rest of it is self evident to its purpose.
Don’t use the word ‘salary’ use ‘compensation’ instead.
Instead of salary should be higher – say something like compensation should be taken under review or revisited for appropriate adjustments to reflect my work product.
The market research sentence sounds combative. Restructure to make it sound like you’ve done them a favor by getting market research to assist with the evaluation of your compensation based on experience and positive impact on the workplace.
Just my thoughts. Good Luck

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
I agree with both posts above. Definitely add specific examples, I added one to a review before " My presence was requested at a customer meeting after my excellent presentation skills were observed at last months company wide meeting".
Also I agree, I think put as many examples as you can and then ask your boss to review the self review with you. At that meeting bring up the raise and salary questions.

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
PS: Most place prefer the ‘team’ approach to salary or employee compensation. I wouldn’t recommend putting them in a situation where they may feel that you’ve are giving them an ultimatum. Unless you really are giving them an ultimatum. Remember never present a problem, without offering a solution and always provide plenty of room for collaboration and negotiation.

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
I've included a proposal for a salary increase as an addendum to my review - Not on the actual review itself.

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
You need evidence of what you have done and what you will contribute next year and how that warrants a salary adjustment.
Good Luck

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
I would make the statement much simpler and make it more of a request for discussion. Something to the effect that you've been in your position for xx amount of time and that you've done some research and feel that your current salary is not up to par based on industry standards, your level of experience and the certifications/designations you have.

Re: HELP - wording on my annual review at work
Is that your ENTIRE self-evaluation?
Your self-evaluation should basically just toot your own horn AND give some examples of areas you'd like to grow in (not weaknesses, but skills you'd like to further develop or additional responsibilities you'd like to take on...)
IMHO, I would NOT ask for a raise in my self-evaluation. I'd write a kick-butt self-evaluation and then approach my boss personally to request more compensation.
Do you have a job description or a set of goals for your stated position / level of experience? If so, specifically mention each of the tasks in that description and how you are doing with them - giving specific examples of how you have done evertyhing expected of you extremely well AND specific examples of how you have gone above and beyond. If you have access to the goals / job descriptions of those higher than you, see if you are doing anything in those descriptions and mention those specifically. Don't state that you got if from XYZ description - they know that. Just state the duty / job / responsibility and how you did it well.
In self-evaluations, always leave room for growth. This doesn't mean you have to point out a weakness, but it means show that you are interested in taking on more responsibility, learning or improving your skills, etc.
Even after you've done all this, I'm still not sure I'd mention compensation in the evaulation UNLESS specifically asked by one of the questions.

Thanks. I also think I should be re-assessed (which I would never write) because last year, at the review time, I did not get an increase because they said, when they brought me into the company in June of 2006, I was brought in at market value
So it will be 1 1/2 years before I get my 1st raise
Thanks for the advice girls

No, it is one small part of a larger evlauation (where I DID toot my own horn, and give examples).
