Help! Anybody know anything about Home theater systems?
My DH was hinting all year about wanting a home theater system for the holidays. After looking them up online I'm more confused than ever! What's the difference between a $3000 one and a $300 one?
I know I want one thats wireless and I don't really want to spen a fortune.
Usually I would ask DH but obviously that would ruin the surprise. I would really appreciate any info you all could give.

wireless is money...
the differences you fnie between different systems are the types of inputs it can handle (hdmi, componenet, etc..) wattage, styles of sound (5.1, 6.1, 7.1)
For a small living room, you don't need to spend over a few hundred bucks as its a small space and watts won't be a concern.

Thanks for the info! Do you know of any specific brands or models that would be good to look into? I really want to get this right.
I hate buying electronics without DH!!

You want a 7.1 if you are going to put speakers in other areas of the house (which we did, and love it).
So we can play a CD and listen to it outside (outside speakers), or listen to it while taking a bath. We have controls in all the rooms to adjust volume.
We had our alarm company install the speakers throughout the house and he set it up to our home theater system.

7.1 sound has nothing to do with other areas of the house.... you are merely zone out your speakers and not getting a true sense of what 7.1 sound does. In an avg size living room, 7.1 does nothing for you as there is not enough space to benefit you...
Popular brands include Onkoyo, Sony, Pioneer... What price are you looking to spend, what kind of TV do you have...
depending on your needs, you can be an all in one system which is a recevier/dvd player in one along with 5.1 sound speakers... those are popular for those that want an easy hook up with easy controls...
