HELP! Cat and Christmas Tree
My kitty has been super good about using his litter box. Up until about 2 months ago, he only ever had 2 accidents (when he was a kitten).
He is a 3 yr old male. Over the past 2 months, he has peed 3 different times in different places around the apt. He was at the vet and she confirmed this is behavioral, nothing medically wrong with him.
He seemed to really be enjoying our live christmas tree and sleeps under there all day for the past 3 weeks.
We were just away for 2 days for christmas (left him with a clean box) and we came home to a TON of pee and poo all over the christmas tree skirt.
I threw away the skirt and cleaned it good. But now I am paranoid to get a new one.
Do you think it was because we left him alone? Do you think it was a real tree - i.e. smells more like the outdoors?
Any tips or ideas? I am really pizzed!!

Honestly, i think it's because he was mad that you left him. Our Gabe used to do that: we'd leave him to just go away for one night, we'd come back and find that he sprayed (basically peed, but behavior and territorial) and pooped (usually in a shoe) out of spite.

Re: HELP! Cat and Christmas Tree
yeah, probably because you left...they are so sensitive to changes so im sure that's it. and since you said he was okay for 3 weeks with it, i doubt it was because it smelled outdoorsy...
our cats are also such good boys but definately if weve ever been lazy and not changed the litter box and soon as it starts to get dirty, one of them right away pees on the bed which hte litter box is next to which is so annoying and gross but its obvious why hes doing it (and its our fault really). also, if dh and i ever have a huge argument, he gets very upset, runs to our bedroom and will pee on the bed. luckily we dont fight like that very often.
