Help, cookie decorating and clueless?
So I invited a few other moms over for cookie decorating on Sunday, but I've never done it before Like I've never even made sugar cookies before
So I was thinking of just getting betty crocker sugar cookie mix packs
Then what should I get to decorate/make them?
Cookie cutters, rolling pin, wax paper?
How can I decorate them...frosting? frosting gels? colored sugars? candies?
HELP please

Re: Help, cookie decorating and clueless?
I did a cookie decorating party last year and it was a lot of fun. I baked the cookies ahead of time, and we just decorated them with the kids. In the refrigerated section, they have sugar cookie dough you can buy - it's delicious and easy. Then just flour your surface, roll out the dough and cut with the cookie cutters. Bake as directed and let them cool.
For decorating, you can use royal icing - very easy to make - if you buy the Wilton Meringue Powder, it contains directions for an easy recipe. I usually double it.
Then you'll need: disposable decorating bags a few decorating tips (just a round hole should do) gel colors to color the icing sprinkles small candies paper plates to decorate on LOTS of napkins/paper towels.
Have fun!

Re: Help, cookie decorating and clueless?
No problem! You can buy all of the supplies at Michaels.
If you have baking sheets, it's good to put the cookies on them to dry after they're decorated.
OH, I also bought little wintery-themed bags last year, so the kids could bring the cookies they decorated home with them.

Re: Help, cookie decorating and clueless?
If you don't really know how to use the decorating bags (like me before I took my cake decorating class!) it could be a real pain. They do have those little gels at Stop n Shop or Michael's that you can use. They are a little bit easier especially for kids. If you are going to get decorating bags, I highly recommend getting couplers. I find they make the bags more secure. They look like this:
Good luck!

Re: Help, cookie decorating and clueless?
The Pioneer Woman just posted an entry on her cookie decorating party. I thought it was pretty interesting and has links to other good blogs.

And... I just purchased this kit at BB&B. Not sure how it works yet, but I plan on giving it a whirl next week.
