HELP!! DD is sick and we are on vacation.
We are in FL on vacation and I need advice.
DD is 18 months and is having diarrhea for the first time ever. She had been taking antibiotics for 10 days. That ended 6 days ago. Not sure if it is from that or if it's something new. Today she has had severe diarrhea 3 times - I'm talking puddles on the floor. It is the color of cement, and almost clear liquid. I fed her rice cereal mixed with bananas for dinner, she only ate a few bites and wouldn't eat anything else except a cracker. She refuses pedialyte and will only sip at water. There has been a couple wet diapers, clear in color but much less than usual. She has no fever. She is her chipper happy self but seems to be moving at a slightly slower pace, only wants me and is more cuddly than playful.
Any advice on what to feed her or how to get her to drink more?
If this continues through the night or tomorrow morning I'll call the Dr.
Thank goodness this didn't happen on the plane, It started in a vinyl/plastic high chair that my FIL could just hose off, over a tile floor. I love her for having such good timing.

I would call the local hospital and ask them for the name of a local ped who has a sick visit slot open. I would also call your insurance company and ask them who to go to - they may tell you to go to an ER instead of finding a doctor. Alternatively, Florida has a service called doc in a box they are a walk in clinic - you might want to try that. Good luck.

Patti, I have absolutely no advice. I just wanted to send lots of to Ainsley. I hope she feels better ASAP and medical attention won't be necessary!

UGH - we are so far out in the sticks. I'm going to call our ped in the morning. She is sleeping in a PNP and I have an extra sheet, and PJ's ready with a sippy cup of water if it happens during the night. I think we'll head into Orlando or over to Tampa a few days early if she needs to see a doctor.

Oh Patti, I'm so sorry Ainsley is sick. I hope it was a one time thing and she's better in the am. That's right, I remember you telling me how far away from everything you are.
Here's to a restful night.
to Ainsley.

maybe its the change in water? I use to live in Tampa, the water is sort of brutal.

Can you call your ped? This is what mine always tells me to do if I'm traveling and she is sick - this way he can tell me if he wants her seen or not.
Unfortunately are you at wdw? I think there has been norwalk going around so that might be what she has. Just keep trying to keep her hydrated with pedialyte and my med suggested gingerale (with the bubbles stirred out) over water which has no sugars etc if she isn't eating.
Food - makes sure you don't start dairy until 24-48 hours after she has had no more diarrhea.
Otherwise - try rice - it will bind her better. Bananas - make sure they are NOT green at all or they can cause diarrhea - make sure they are if anything overripe.
Plain scrambled eggs (no butter or oil) are okay - as well as some crackers, plain toast.
Watch juice b.c it can cause diarrhea too.

My sister always froze pedialyte in ice cube trays- but they make freezer pops out of it now, is that an option??? Hopefully she feels better soon!!!

Definitely ask the front desk at your hotel where the nearest walk in clinic is., It can't hurt to have her checked out.

They also have the pedialyte melt away strips.... I JUST saw them @ CVS last night....
If you go onto Pedialyte.com, there is a section called dehydration matters, and there is a subsection called warning signs & symptoms.... it sounds like you daughter may be slightly dehydrated already.....
what about gatorade? will she sip that?

It's not unusal for this to happen days after antibiotics. If she is not overly weak or lethargic I would stay the course with what you are doing. Offer juice if she won't take the pedialyte...she needs the sugars. I would also suggest applesauce, bananas and toast. She may prefer the cooler foods like the applesauce and yogurt. Even gatorade is worth a shot - the colors available might entice her.
If the diarrhea goes into day 3 I would call the pediatrician and consider taking her in....she may get too dehydrated.
I hope that she feels better soon!

You may also want to try probiotics-seems like the antibiotics killed her good stomach bacteria. Good luck. Keep checking her for dehyrdration as that is the most dangerous part of diarrhea
