help! dry cleaners lost DH's good shirts!

Our dry cleaners are so disorganized. Many times they would forget to charge me for certain things and charge me later. But they were close by and convenient so I let that go. This morning I go to pick up my stuff and drop off more of dh's shirts. She starts explaining this long thing. I can't understand her but pick up that my shirts may have gone to someone else, or out down somewhere (????) so I ask If they have them. She says no but what size is he they will buy him new shirts. I tell her dh will bill them. I don't need them buying or giving some crappy shirts they have hanging around. She was surprised when I wouldn't give her my other stuff to clean! So my question is, what can we legally do? Can dh ask for money back? That is 150 dollars worth of shirts! What do we do now???

That's always been one of my biggest fears! Ugh!

Well.......would you happen to still have the receipts from the shirts? YOu can certainly start there; hand them to the cleaners and have them compensate you.

If you dont, I dont think you have to get legally involved if they are willing to compensate you.

Hopefully, they dont give you a hard time and they give you what you ask for.

was going to say the same thing. if you have proof of the price of the shirts, i would bring that in. they will have to fully compensate you for the missing shirts.

this hapepend to my a few years ago...when we were living in Massapequa. They lost a bunch of clothes of mine. they kept telling me to come back in a day or 2. Finally I got p issed and told them I wanted to be paid for me lost clothes. I was told to talk to the owner. I called and called and called...never got an answer then the bastards closed their doors!! needless to say , I never got my clothes back or any money for it.

I would go there and tell them this is the amout that it cost for the shirts and get your money!!

My dry cleaner lost a good shirt of mine so I kept calling and they kept looking for it - eventually they refunded the full price of the shirt to me even though I didnt have a receipt. I had been going there for years.

i would find out when the owner is there and go personally to talk with him. make sure you have a price in mind about how much you want back (sounds like $150) and any possible proof like a receipt. definitely bring your original dry cleaning ticket.

unfortunately, the dry cleaners my DH uses has a sign up that they are not responsible beyond 10 times the dry cleaning amount. which would be $10 per shirt! that certainly would be no where near enough money to replace his shirts if something happened.

I worked at a dry cleaner in Northport and I will tell you, we sent the shirts out. If they were lossed by the laundry then we asked the customer for a receipt and would reimburse thm for new shirts. It is very rare though that they were permanently lost. I know if I still have something nice to dry clean I still drive all the way back to me because I know how they treat their customers. When we still lived in the city, DS sent out 2 tuxedo shirts to be cleaned before a wedding. He got back to but they were not his! When we called the cleaners, they claimed he was lying. These shirts had someone's name in them!! We ended up buying new ones and getting reimbursed for them but we were p!issed about it!

that once happened to us- we just went and bought new shirts (same brand) and the dry cleaners reimbursed us- they cut us a check on the spot
