Help I'm at a loss

I need some advice I have twins who are 20 mths old they barely speak I had them tested and they didn't qualify for speech but my son I think has issues and his dr just always tells me oh that's fine or he will grow out of it I need other moms to tell me if any of this is normal or should I be concerned and if so what's the next step?

He yell with his mouth open and wails his arms
He does not listen to me at all
He hits his sister and if she cries he shows no emotion
If I tell at him or call his name he will ignore me
He doesn't eat, he will examine his food and even smell it before putting it in his mouth he only eats maybe 10 things
He plays by himself rather than with her
He throws tantrums

His sister doesn't do any of this so I don't know what is normal and what's not

They both will imitate, he acts like a toddler but I'm just wondering if I'm not noticing problems

Thank you
Kerri

Re: Help I'm at a loss

I am a strong advocate for a parent to go with their gut.

Pediatricians only see our children for a few minutes at a time in most cases.

I think in his case, since he's so young, you would need to go through early intervention.

DS was a little older when we got him an eval so it was different steps.

I am sure the other ladies can advise you of the process.

Good luck!

I am a firm believer in mommy gut. Every appointment with my pediatrician would leave me more frustrated until I finally just called up the County for an eval....and I was right. All the things taken seperately could point to nothing....put them all together and they could be a red flags for something. And if it is something, you want services sooner than later. It does not cost you anything to call for an evaluation and will give you peace of mind. Chat Icon

Call either Nassau or Suffolk county (depending what county you're in) early intervention.
You can set up an evaluation.

Call Early Intervention. Sad to say it but pediatricians often want to take a "wait and see" approach that is not always the best thing for a child. Good luck.
