Help in the kitchen...

So my kitchen isn't small but there is no real room for an eat in table and chairs. Plus unfortunatly there is also no dining room.Chat Icon What we are doing now is pulling the table out into the middle eating family dinner and pushing it back up against the wall when we are done. It's been 5 years and I am sick of it. I know we can't really think about resale right now.....we have no plans to go anywhere anytime soon. But would it be stupid to build onto the counter top and make a bar height "table"?? It really would be an extention to the counter so tons more counter space which is always nice and the stools would go under (it would be "table sized" so big). I think it would would best for our family....but my hang ups are resale and if we ever have anyone over for dinner (few times a year) there really is not table to sit and have dinner....

Re: Help in the kitchen...

Do you have room for a bar height table and stools? My parents did this before the redid their kitchen. When they redid kitchen they added a bar height counter to be able to eat in the kitchen.

Re: Help in the kitchen...

Not really it would still be the issue of having to move the table out so everyone could sit at the chairs.

I'd be concerned about never being able to have guests over to eat, as you say.

This isn't really going to work though because you will need it far enough out from the wall so it will be in the position your table is when you have it out from the wall.

I wouldn't worry about resale if you plan on staying there for the foreseeable future - you need to live there and be comfortable. And if you have people over for dinner, what do you do now? Can the table that you have fit company? If you do the counter extension with the bar height table, you could always do buffet style when you have people over.

Re: Help in the kitchen...

Not sure how to post the pic from my album.....

It shows the where the counter ends and how the table is positioned. I figured the new counter would start about where the dishwasher ends.....

I really like this idea but I am so afraid of not having a table a few times a year. But for daily funtion it is just not working for me. it has to be pulled out so that we can sit back there anyways. It's driving me crazy!!! Chat Icon

Would you consider banquette seating?
You can put benchs where wall is to slide in and then the two chairs on the outside

I think that's s great idea! Then when you have company, you could always place a folding table next to your regular table to extend the seating area.
