Help me clean my lineleoum kitchen floor so it looks shiny....also, step by step instructions...
HELP! Whenever I wash the kitchen floor it looks streaky and I can never feel like it is clean enough- you would not know it by looking at it, but I do and want it to look shiny and spotless. Please give me step by step insturctions, and what you use to clean it. For some reason it looks dull, lifeless and almost muddy when I wash it. TIA It is lineloeum tiles, eventually my whole 70's style kitchen is going to be redone and get a facelift, but still have to deal w/ the flower wall paper- glad that is the only thing left in the 70's.....

Re: Help me clean my lineleoum kitchen floor so it looks shiny....also, step by step instructions...
my guess is that you need to strip it of the wax and start over.
mix amonia in warm/semi-hot water (don't recall the proportions, but would say 1 cup ammonia to 5 gal of water. use a mop to spread the mixture over the floor. This will strip the wax off the floor.
clean the floor with your usual detergent (scrub it down so you get up any dirt). let dry.
take a sponge mop, cover the mop head with an old smooth t-shirt. tie the shirt tightly over the mop handle so that the shirt is totally flat over the sponge part.
use mop and glow or similar wax product. squeeze it out onto the tiles and then in a deliberate and smooth motion, spread the wax over the floor. Be careful to plan your exit so you don't wax yourself into a corner.
let it dry for at least an hour.
this was how we were taught to do our floors when I was a midshipman at USNA. worked for inspection every single time.

I have the same type of floors. I actually had to sit on the floor with a bottle of bleach and a sponge and scrub the floor. Then I went over it with Pine Sol and a mop.

I do the same thing from time to time with the Clorox clean-up with Bleach and then Pine Sol. Otherwise I use the Pine Sol about every other week.
