Help me make my bathroom not so ugly
I hate this bathroom. We don't have the $ to re do right now. It was painted the wrong color when we moved in 4 years ago and I haven't had the time to repaint it. DD did a gymnastic move on the towel bar yesterday and pulled it out of the wall and left a hug hole so I am going to paint it.
The cabinet is painted that color (from the old owners) and it needs to be redone.
The GREEN stripe kills me and throws me off with a color scheme. I am lost!
1. Should I keep the cabinet an expresso color or do another color?
2. What color should I paint the walls?
3. Any examples of shower curtains you can share.
4. Any other inexpensive ideas to make this bathroom less ugly?

Paint over the stripe in the tile, choose a nicer color then coordinate from there
Painting Bathroom Tile OR alternatively, don't fight the stripe. I actually don't think the stripe is that bad, it's what is around it that's throwing everything off. Work with it.
First, I would replace the countertop, it's an inexpensive fix and will freshen up the look of the vanity. I would go with a nice, clean white. What you have now looks off to me in that space.
I would keep the vanity and cabinet a darker color, look into General Finishes Gel Stain. It's a great product and easy to use. Stain both pieces so they match and look richer and more updated. Change out the hardware to something in a brushed nickel. Also, consider ditching the cabinet above the toilet all together (that's what I would do) and get two, open, brushed nickel shelves. Fill a pretty basket with toiletries or TP. Showcase a framed print of something cute Iike your kids in the tub. Make it functional but decorative at the same time. It will give some character to the bathroom.
Paint the walls a warm cream or, if you're not afraid of color, paint the walls the same color as the stripe. It won't look too dark because you have the creamy tile to offset the dark walls. Don't compete with the stripe, work with it. I think it could end up looking very nice.
If you do the darker walls, go with a crisp white shower curtain and window treatment. To make the shower look
more spa like and updated, get a curved out shower rod and get an extra long shower curtain so it runs from the ceiling to the floor. If you can't find a long enough shower curtain, use real curtains and get the double curved rod and hang a plastic liner behind it.
Get a shower mat and other bathroom rugs and towels that coordinate with the stripe. Accessorize with a pretty brushed nickel soap dispenser and towel rods.
Honestly, with a few inexpensive DIY fixes I think the bathroom could look really rich and inviting. Right now some things look dated and I feel like the walls, shower curtain, countertop, and stripe are all competing with each other. You just need to make things look more cohesive, start with the stripe and either paint it or keep it and then let the rest of the bathroom flow from there. Good luck!!

you are always so helpful! I never thought about painting the stripe! Started looking into it...totally doable
I cleaned out the medicine cabinet this morning and I am going to have dh take that down. If I get rid of the green I feel like I will much more options color scheme wise

you are always so helpful! I never thought about painting the stripe! Started looking into it...totally doable
