help me paint my kitchen please! :-)

ok.. so we're slowly redoing our kitchen. we bought our house from my ILS, and they were into the whole 90's "country blue" thing (yes, those stencils around the top are birds and pinecones!!) ... not really my taste. I have off next week, so we're having somebody come to paint it for us.. we're gonna pick up the paint. Right now, i'm leaning towards a soft yellow, like BM "popcorn kernel"... but wanted to see if you guys have any other ideas. Here's a pic
* we're keeping the cabinets
* the appliances are now all stainless steel
* ignore the ugly blue floor- we're replacing it eventually, so i'm not worried about the paint matching the blue
* ignore the red legs on the table- i'll paint those at some point, too.
* we have a sage green in our bedroom, and a lot of sage accents around the house, so i would kinda like to stay away from greens...

Yellow would be nice, but I a really digging orange. Not BRIGHT orange but a terracota(?) color. Or what about a tan?

Re: help me paint my kitchen please! :-)

i have a yellow in my kitchen, bright yellow and LOVE it. it makes me happy to be in there.
if there is an emotion that can be tied to color, for me yellow = happy.

not many people love yellow though.

BUT! when my house was up for sale, people commented all the time about the nice colors i picked out. so, i guess people liked my yellow!

Oh! someone on here as that BM Autumn something-or-other... that's gorgeous!

it doesn't look like you will have ALOT to paint, so using a really bold color would be great!

Go to Rate my space. There is a kitchen with the same lay out as yours.

thanks!! i'm definitely thinking a brighter color because of all the windows in the room ( theres a HUGE window to the right of where i was standing taking the pic) and, actually... theres a pretty large wall thats not in the picture that would get painted... its sort of to the right of where i was standing when i took the picture. you don't see it when you first walk into the room, though.

i feel the same way about yellow! its nice and bright and "cheerful" and makes me happy Chat Icon i don't want it to be SUPER bright though because the room gets a lot of light, and i don't want to need sunglasses when i'm in there during the day- LOL but the painter stopped by yesterday to give us an estimate and he suggested the BM "popcorn kernel" as kind of a middle ground- yellow without being TOO yellow. we'll see.. we're paying him $300 to paint it, so i would hate to have to pay him to do it all over again if it comes out bad!

I think BM Audubon Russet would look beautiful! My sister just painted her kitchen that color and she has the same color cabinets.

Re: help me paint my kitchen please! :-)

If you really want to do a yellow i'd keep it on the pale side, you don't want it blending too much with the cabinets. It's so open and bright (love all the windows!) you really could go with something bolder like a terra cotta color too.

Have you thought about changing out the hardware on the cabinets too? Oil-rubbed bronze knobs and pulls would look great.

haha we actually did change the knobs, too! forgot to put that in my "list" Chat Icon they are a dark bronze now. I LOVE all the windows, too!! and thats not even all of them in the pic... theres another huge one right next to that windowed door, too!
LOL my husband would love me if i went with the audubon russet color.. he likes the yellow, but also was trying to talk me into a rusty red color. maybe this weekend i'll see if i can get samples of each and try them out in the room and see...

We've got similar cabinets and beige floors, and our kitchen is going to be BM Spanish Red or Red Brick - I love the contrast!

Audobon Russet would be a great color if you are willing to go dark-ish. We painted our staircase that and we don't get a lot of light but the ceiling is white and molding is white and it looks great. Love the color.
