Help me with the whole bed/new crib thing cuz we don't know what to do
Aly is still in her crib showing NO signs of trying to climb out (I'm sure that could change sooner or later).
Baby #2 is due in June when Alyson will be 17 1/2 months old if I go the full term.
Do I buy a convertible crib for the baby and dismantle the crib I have and re-assemble in her new room (it won't fit out the nursery door since the doorway has an odd angle to it).
Do I buy her a twin bed and leave the crib in the nursery?
Do I buy her a twin and buy a convertible for baby #2???

Shana, we had the same thing. Our original crib was not convertible, so we left that in the nursery since Sarah was moving to a new room. We got her a new convertible crib and still have it set up as a crib. She has zero interest in climbing out of it yet. We plan on getting Andy a set of twin bunk beds in the future, and Sarah will have the full sized bed from the convertible eventually.
We moved her into her new room about 2 months before my due date so that she could get used to her new room and not feel like she was getting kicked out of her room by the baby.

We had baby #2 in a bassinet for 3 months. Two weeks before we moved her into the crib, we moved Joseph to a twin bed. I didn't want to waste money getting a toddler bed. He loved the "big boy bed". The crib stayed empty for 2 weeks so he wouldn't think of it as his crib anymore.

I'm in the same boat. Nate has a convertible crib, which he doesn't sleep much in. We have a co-sleeper which the baby will use for the first 6 months or so. DH wants to get Nate a race car bed. The race car bed is such a waste of money IMO, bc we'd have to buy the bed and another crib mattress. But everytime I say that DH gets mad and says that I always have to have everything my way. I'd rather just turn the crib into the toddler function a month or so before the baby is born so he can get used to sleeping in it. Then buy Nate a twin bed in the fall when we're ready to put the baby in the crib.
Ugh! men! DH is already pis sed bc I wouldnt let him get his jeep stroller when Nate was little. He was crushed when I told him we still didn't need it bc we need a double stroller.

Stephanie: Maybe you can find the racecar bed on craigslist? It's all plastic so you can wipe it down easily and then just get the mattress. At least then you aren't spending so much.

My daughter is 21 months and still happily in her crib. I'd keep the crib for Aly and get a less expensive one for the new baby to use until Aly is done with hers.

17 and 1/2 months is early for me to think twin bed already.....Not too many I know were out of the crib at that stage yet..... I would buy a new convertible crib for the baby and dismantle hers and put in her new room...

What about waiting it out and keeping the new baby in a bassinet or pack n play for a little while and see where Aly's at then? After a few months of the new baby she might be ready for a twin with a guard rail.
