Help Needed: Formula Related

Hello ladies,

Here is my dilemma...my son has crying fits. He's had them since he was born.

He will have gas and then wind up pooping. It seems like most of it is gas. I'm hoping to find a formula that will help make him less gassy with the pooping. We don't really have burping/spit up issues.

When he was born I was breastfeeding and tried soy which made him constipated. We then tried Nestle Good Start and then Alimentum.

My son had to have surgery so I'm basically starting from scratch on the Similac Advance. The Alimentum made his stool watery.

Does anyone have the best recommendation to help with the gas? I was thinking going back to the Alimentum or trying the Enfamiil Gentle Ease. I'm open to suggestions...

Please help!
Maria

We used Pro Sobee Soy. Have you thought about trying soy? It helps with gas.

I tried 5 different formulas because of gas and reflux issues.
We tried:
Similac
Gentlese
Enfamil
Good start Soy
and FINALLY Good Start (purple can)

Good Start was the ONE.

Thank you very much for the recommendations.

I'm hesitant to try soy because I'm afraid of constipation.

Any other advice is appreciated. I want to make a decision in the next few days - I'm hoping something will help - even just a little Chat Icon

I would not go to Similac Advance after you have switched from Good Start to Ailimentum. Have you discussed this with a Dr?

DD is on Alimentum because she was so gassy when she was younger but if you don't want to jump right into Alimentum i would say try the gentlease.

Like I said b4... I would def try the Gentlease... All K does now is toot the day away!!!!!

Also... I really recommend using some type of gas medicine. The ped told me to give K a dosage at every feeding during the day, and it has def helped also!

Thank you.

The Dr. put him on Alimentum at the hospital before his diagnosis because they thought it could be an allergy. Turned out it wasn'tChat Icon

I think I'm going to take the plunge and put him on Alimentum or Gentle Ease. I'm meeting with the Ped. tomorrow and I'll see what she says.

I'm already using the Mylicon drops in every bottle.

Thank you!!

Wow, I must have a backwards baby! We had very similar problems from day one with DS and tried many formulas...and believe it or not, Soy helped with the gas AND the stool. With Enfamil and Good Start his stool was hard and he was straining way too much! Once we put him on Soy everything was SOOOO much better. A little stinkier, but better. Chat Icon

We use Similac Sensitive, which is similar to Enfamil Gentlease. You might want to try one of those, it helped DS with his gas tremendously.

Talk to your ped though to make sure there isn't a milk allergy or some other problem at play here. There may not be, but it's worth checking out.
