Help-what does this mean? Update-will I know?

Ok, remember I said that dr. did bloodwork today while we were there. Well, just got a call from the nurse on my way home from work. Turns out there was the faintest line on my urine test this AM so they ran bloodwork. I'm pregnant but the numbers don't look good Chat Icon
She said my progesterone is extremely low-14. She called in suppositories for me to start taking tonight & then I have to go back Monday for bloodwork. She said it's probably a chemical pregnancy but you never know.

When I asked her how did I have AF last week; she said it happens sometimes.

I'm kicking myself right now for not going to my appt. on Monday AM because I could have been on the suppositories since Monday night. But I figured I was out since I got AF.

Anyway, for anyone who's experienced this or has some input, is there anything I can do to help this pregnancy stick? I'm so torn right now-happy & sad all at the same time. If this doesn't stick will it be like a miscarriage later on with bleeding, etc.?

Sorry to bombard you again, ladies but you're my support system. I'm praying that this little one decides to stay.

Re: Help-what does this mean?

You know I'm so confused because they called while I was driving and I didn't have any pen/paper with me. She could have meant my Beta was 14, because she said they usually like to see it at 40-50 at this point.
But I do know she said progesterone was very low.

Re: Help-what does this mean?

I've had late implantation before...after AF

it can happen

Or, the bleeding could have been something else

This is why its important to go for betas

Take that progesterone and pray!!!

It's definitely bizarre, but listen, plenty of women carry successful pregnancies under these conditions - I'll be hoping for you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Help-what does this mean?

If it makes you feel a little better when I got pregnant my HcG levels were always very good but from the beginning my progesterone levels were fairly low. They averaged between 10-12. I was put on progesterone supplements (vaginal suppositories) in my 5th week and I stayed on them until my 12th week to ensure that my placenta had taken over hormone production. I took them 2X/day. I am now 27 weeks pregnant so it's possible that everything will be just fine even with low numbers. Lots of luck..........I know it's scary but hopefully everything will turn out ok. Re: Help-what does this mean?

14 is not really extremely low for progesterone. On an unmedicated cycle they like to see 10, and for medicated at least 15, so 14 doesn't seem like an extremely low number to me.
I would call back and clarify what they were telling you numbers for.
Did you have a regular AF last week? It could have been implantation. Also it is rare, but there have been cases where women ovulate during or just after AF, so if that happened to you, they just might be catching it really early?

Definitely go back for follow-up bw, and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!Chat Icon

Re: Help-what does this mean?

Thanks, guys; I really appreciate it. As everyone said, not much I can do but take the progesterone (which I started last night) and wait until Monday to see what the bloodwork shows. This is the first time I'll be wishing for the weekend to fly by Chat Icon

It seemed like a regular AF to me; started on Thursday. Was really heavy on Friday & Saturday. Then continued lighter for Sunday, Monday & was pretty much gone by Tuesday. On Wednesday, I had some brown spotting.

Re: Help-what does this mean? Update-will I know?

Ladies, have been getting slight cramps and back pain. Will I know if something happens? Since I got AF last week, will I still bleed, etc. if I miscarry?

Re: Help-what does this mean? Update-will I know?

The same exact thing happened to me in April and May. I got AF and then tested positive on a pregnancy test at the doctor's office. Both times my progesterone was very low and the pregnancies were chemical. I was told there was nothing I could or should have done to save the pregnancy. I was totally shocked and devastated when it happened but it just was not meant to be in my case. Feel free to FM me if you like.

ETA: After I got AF, I started bleeding again a few days later for a natural MC. The bleeding may start again once your beta drops.
