Help with getting DD into Kindergarten - who to call?
DD's birthday is ONE day past the schools cutoff and I want to talk to someone to try to get her into Kindergarten on the early side.
She will be in the Riverhead School District. Do I contact the Elementary School principal of the district superintendant?

That would be up to the district's Central Office (Superintendent or someone in "Attendance") The principal has nothing to do with those decisions.

Someone DD went to school with had a similar situation, I think he was a week past the cutoff. His mom contacted the elementary school and asked them about having her son tested so he could start K a year earlier. He had to go through the K screening to determine if he was ready to start K early.

Someone DD went to school with had a similar situation, I think he was a week past the cutoff. His mom contacted the elementary school and asked them about having her son tested so he could start K a year earlier. He had to go through the K screening to determine if he was ready to start K early.

I asked about "testing' her in, and they won't do it. They said it's a hard line cutoff date. Do I just keep pushing?

I think if you put your child in "private kindergarten" that when it comes time for first grade they will accept your child

I know a lot of people who do this. We were just having this conversation the other night. Not sure about all private schools, but the one my kids go to, they also follow the same date cut-off as the public school district (December 1st). They make so exceptions.
What's weird is that most Nov and December kids I know now are the oldest in their classes. I have 2 brothers and a sister who are all December birthdays.. and back then, they were all the youngest.
