Help with names? (update with another question)
DH and I have been having a really rough time with names (ok with everything lately but this is about names) He is a Jr. and I really dont want a 3rd...pretty dead set against it unless he absolutely wants it...which he doesn't seem to but he has been impossible with names other then his the only name he likes is Jackson. Which ironicly I originally said but I have been torn....only because my nephew is Jack and I think the names are so similar but then again we now live in different states and unfortunately wont get to see each other much.
We want the nickname Jax so how would you spell it?
update: Another Question Do you think its ok to name my son Jackson if my nephew is Jack? (We now live in another state so seeing each other on a regular basis is not an issue, just personally Im on the fence about it, dh has no issue with it? Just curious what everyone else thinks...

Re: Help with names?
I'd spell it Jackson and just spell his nickname Jax if that's how you prefer it. Lots of nicknames have letters that aren't in the original so I think it would be fine. William/Billy, Jason/Jay, Robert/Bobby...

I know a Jackson and his nn is Jax. I would go with the more classic spelling.

I agree! I love the name Jackson w/traditional spelling!

Agreed.
I'm Jaclyn, and one of my nicknames is Jax...obviously.

Re: Help with names? (update with another question)
I would never put an S after an X, so I voted for classical spelling. Meanwhile, my screenname is taken from my DH's old tag name which he spelled with an XS..
And to answer your second question, my DS is Luke and my nephew is Lucas. DH and I love the name and we really didn't care that it was so similar. Plus, there's 12 years and 2 states in between the cousins, so I really didn't think it was a big deal.

Re: Help with names? (update with another question)
I prefer the spelling Jackson.
As far as using a similar name to someone in the family, we did. My cousins son has the same name as my son. DH and I always liked the name, it is a family name for both of us and we couldn't find one we liked better so we went with it. Although it is a classic boys name it is not currently "popular" which meant more to us than having someone in the family with the same name.

Re: Help with names? (update with another question)
For your second question: I find it akin to naming someone Mark when there's another person named Marcus in the family. I think it's fine.
DH's cousin's son is Jack but my grandfather is Jack and it's a name we considered despite that (although they're second cousins not first). I don't think it matters if you love a name. Maybe if you lived next door and were going to see them every day it could matter... but that's not the case anyway!
DH has 27 first cousins. His grandparents have 33 great grand children (the one inside me will be #34). If we had to limit by all those names, it would be TOUGH! lol. Someday I'm gonna try to list them all... but not right now.

Re: Help with names? (update with another question)
I like the traditional spelling - I don't think I'd use it with someone close in the family with such a close name but that's just my own preference. I don't see anything wrong with doing that

Re: Help with names? (update with another question)
I would go with the traditional spelling of Jackson. It's perfectly ok to have the nickname Jax.
That said, I think I'd have a hard time naming my son Jackson if my nephew was Jack. A cousin or extended family member, maybe, but my nephew? Probably not. In fact, I love a certain girls name that starts the same way as my niece's name and we won't use the name because it's just too similar even though the whole name is different.
BUT I know how hard it is to find a name you both love and agree on!
