help with our lake george area vacation

so dh and i booked a 4 night trip to lake george next month... well, we're actually staying about 10 miles south in lake luzerne, in a bed and breakfast.
i know the things we would like to do, i'm just wondering if you guys can help with specifics, recommend companies etc.
we def want to do white water rafting and horseback riding; hike up prospect mountain (can we just go on our own and follow a trail???); a dinner cruise on the minnie haha; maybe a day trip for the horse races... rent jet skiis?
any restuarant recs in lake george village would be helpful too. thanks!

Re: help with our lake george area vacation

Which bed and breakfast are you staying in.
White water rafting- Tubby Tubes or Wild Waters (in Lake Luzerne)

horse back riding- Bennett's Horses (in Lake Luzerne)

If have used all of the companies and they are great!

Make sure you go to Bon's Ice cream or Papa's Ice cream in Lake Luzerne!

Re: help with our lake george area vacation

I practically grew up there. My parents have a house in Lake Luzerne.

For white water rafting make sure you wear water shoes or something of the sort. Flip flops don't work that well because they fall off. you will have to walk a little so you want something on your feet. Take a towel and leave it in the bus. Just have fun and don't put your feet down when you are in the rapids.

The horse back riding does group tours but I think you can pay more and have a private tour. It has been a few year since I have gone. Bennett's is the better one in the area.

To rent jet ski you will have to actually go into lake George to do that. There is a place in town down by the Minnie Ha Ha. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the nane. The rental stand is to the left of the Minnie Ha ha and it is by a bar. They also do parasail rides there too.

I used them a few times before my family bought their own.

I recommend doing it earlier in the day before the water gets too crowded with boats.

Let me know if you need more info. I am more than happy to help!

Re: help with our lake george area vacation

My personal opinion and maybe it is because I have been on it a million times, the shorter the better. It is nice (don't get me wrong) but it does get a little boring after a while.

I have never done the moonlight or fireworks cruise. I would imagine the fireworks cruise would be nice as well as the moonlight cruise.

Re: help with our lake george area vacation

My parents friends own the LL Inn!!!!
They are so nice there, my parents house is in the heights of LL.

We've been going there for so many years, there's so much to do.

1-I personally don't recommend any of the restaurants in LG, to me they are far too crowded and the food is....eh.
My fave restaurant in the area is Montcalm, next to the outlets. I haven't been there in ages, we missed it last time we were up there.

2-Glens Falls has some great restaurants too, if you have a car, definitely try Davidson brewery in the heart of GF, nice pub with great microbrews.
The Heidelberg is awesome too, great German food and burgers, also in GF.

If you go to the beach for a day in LL, you must have subs from Joe's, across the street from Cumberland Farms. THeir ham salad is so yummy too!

2-WW Rafting has 2 companies I recommend, but can't remember the names! One is across the street from the Luzerne Market and the other is next to the Rockwell Falls bridge, I think that one's Sacandaga rafting.

3-Last year we rented a boat with our friends and spent the day on Lake George. There's a ton of places to rent, we went to Chick's Marina up in BOlton Landing. There's a little inlet across from Chick's practically where the water is very shallow and everyone meets up there and sunbathes, BBQs, and just hangs out. I highly recommend that.

4-You can go to Bennet's for horseback riding, they are prolly the most popular place in the area, right on 9 on the way fro LL to LG on the right, near Lake Vanare.

Start with that and if I can help you with anything else, lemme know, I have been going there for 25 years, I love it and can't wait to go back in August!!!!

Oh, you HAVE to go to the Barnsider, it's at the foot of the LG village, closest to the really big golf course when you come from LL>
Their BBQ is awesome, they catered my rehearsal dinner......soooo good!
