Help with size of baby clothes
I haven't registered yet for any clothes, but wanted to know what sizes you think are best to register for? Is it always smart to go up one size i.e. instead of newborn buy 3-6 months etc? First time mommy here

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
IMO, I would not really register for clothing (even the stores will say that). I think that when people give gifts, clothing is the easiest thing to give. The stuff you register for is the "harder" stuff for your friends to buy you so that's why you register for that. Don't worry about the clothing, it will come

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
I have been wondering the same!!!!!
You hear all the time that the baby was born smaller than expected so he was unable to fit into right away....
You will also hear that my baby was so big he outgrew the newborn stuff right away....
It has me so dizzy thinking about this.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
I would only register for onesies. You get so many clothes as presents that you don't need to register for any. If you do register for onesies do all different sizes since they grow so quickly, even newborn. DD was in newborn clothes a lot longer than I thought she would be.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
I would definitely get a few newborn onesies and sleepers. Maybe don't wash them until baby arrives but we needed them and had hardly any.

thanks girls, I'll take the advice about not registering for clothing. I'll just stick to the different sized onesies and sleepers

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
you're going to get SO much in various sizes and you never know how big your baby will be.
Both my kids wore newborns for awhile, they were even a little big at first!
They both run true to size (whereas in a store, they will tell you to double to age 6 mths old, buy 12 months). NOT TRUE for mine.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
I wouldn't register for any. People will buy you tons of stuff. Have some onesies and a few outfits in the house in newborn and 0-3 ready to go. You can go get more once your baby is born, and that is a nice way to get out for a little bit. Some people need the newborn (like us...DD is 1 month and still in it without a change in size coming soon) and others barely wear it.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
i only washed my newborn stuff before DS was here--and it was only like 5 onesies. he was measuring at over 8 pounds but was born at 7 pounds!
i had my mom and sister go out and buy him a few more newborn things and i just keep washing them because i don't want to get too much since he will be out of them soon.
you never know what size your baby will be regardless of what the sonos say. and you don't know how fast he/she will grow. you're better off waiting until DC is here!

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
I didn't register for clothing - you will get tons anyway. DD was born in April and I got a ton of 3-6 month. I didn't receive any newborn-sized clothes and I really needed that for the first couple of months.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
Everyone told me I would wind up with more clothes than I knew what to do with at my shower regardless of what was on my registry.
...everyone was right!
But, being the neurotic one I am, I registered for a pack of onesies in each size to be on the safe side (ie, 1 pack of newborn, 1 pack of 0-3 months, 1 pack of 6-9 months, etc).
Ryan weighed in at 9lbs 3oz at birth and went down to 8lbs 8oz on the day we came home from the hospital. He managed to wear one newborn sized onesie and has been in 0-3 months since.
Hope this helped

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
You know, both of my kids were right on with sizes. Meaning, they fit into 0-3 until they were right about to be 3 months, and same for 3-6 and 6-9 months. It's hard to say, because some babies go straight to 3-6 while some stay in 0-3 for awhile.

Re: Help with size of baby clothes
DD ran really small for a while - she was in newborn until over 3 months, which I never expected!
I would not register for clothes for 2 reasons:
1) You don't know how big the baby will be
2) A lot of the clothing gets discontinued in the time from when you register to when the baby is born.
For my first I did register for some onesies and some gowns (I knew they would fit no matter how big she was - they were huge at first, but she grew into them).
