Baby clothes sizing-how do you anticipate their size?
So we chose to be surprised with DD's gender and as a result, we don't have a lot of clothes (some sleepers and onesies but not like if we had known her gender).
Now I want to shop a bit and I am wondering how to predict her size for the future (thinking of snatching up some things at BRU clearance).
Is the month sizing somewhat accurate or should I be looking for things a few months older than her age?

I wouldn't get too much stuff in bigger sizes, she might not fit right in the clothes when the time comes for her to wear them.

not for us. At 2 months, he is in 9-12 months, or the old navy 6-12 months. Every store and every brand is different. I picked up winter stuff for next year on sale, big waste, he will be able to fit into them this summer

Re: Baby clothes sizing-how do you anticipate their size?
I think its real hard to do this when they are this young. My DD was on the big side when born (8lbs 1oz). Now, at 10 months, she is wearing 6-9 month clothes still (and 6 months in Carters). I actually just bought her birthday dress, and I bought it in 6-9mos because she is just such a peanut. I think this is easier as they get older and stay in the same size for longer periods of time. I had so much stuff for DD for last summer that she never even wore because it was too big (3-6months, and she was born in April). It was very upsetting for me. I'm not going to do that again. It really didn't save me money -- it cost me money.

I agree to wait - my boy is growing like a weed, we're growing out of 3-6mo clothes and he's 7 weeks! We just go to Tanger and take advantage of some sales.
We're shocked he's so long since both DH and I are not tall. Although I have 6'3" males all over my family tree...

I would wait on the fall and winter stuff because you still do not know how much she is growing through her growth spurts. Summer you could definitly get probably 3-6 months because its mostly shorts, shirts and dresses. DS was basically on track with most of the brands but take a look at the tags and see what the weight and height is instead of going by the months. I did that and it really helped.

Re: Baby clothes sizing-how do you anticipate their size?
Unfortunately you really can't predict their size. Some kids grow really fast way ahead of the numbered sizing and some are very true to size. I find I really can never take advantage of the clearance racks for this reason unless i am buying for the size she is now. Most often the only sizes on the clearance rack are newborn, 0-3 and 12 mos. so you could take advantage of it now with your first batch of clothes but you won't know what season your baby will be wearing 12 mos clothes until they hit 8 or 9 mos and you have a handle on their growth rate.

Re: Baby clothes sizing-how do you anticipate their size?
It definately depends on how big she was at birth and how quickly she is growing.
In other words, there is NO way to tell. I had soooo many 0-3 month clothes and DS was in them for ONE month. Yes, ONE month. I was changing his outfits just so he could wear them and they wouldn't go to waste. Now he is a little over 3 months old and he is quickly growing out of his 6 month clothes. I had to break out some 9 month sleepers .
So, I wouldn't get too many clothes. Take it from someone who spent a fortune on clothes that hardly got worn

You can buy things that she could wear year-round, so if she doesn't fit into it in one season, she'll fit into it the next. For instance I bought a ton of jeans, t-shirts and sweatshirts. DDs can wear those anytime of the year!

Awww, they are even the same size
I picked up a few things for next winter in 18-24 mos. I figured if they don't fit in the winter, hopefully they will fit in either the fall or spring.
On the other hand, when I was preggo I got a TON of summer clothes in Gymboree size 6-12 months. Is it so bad to put him in shorts and a bathing suite in March
Just joking
