HELP! WTH do I do with the gonal pen?

I got 3 pens. They said every other night for 4 nights. Do I do a whole pen? If not, how much? I'm supposed to do it now, but I was busy and just got to it now.

ETA, the box says "use as directed" but no one at the Dr. directed me on how to use this stupid thing or how much. Lovely!

Did they specify on your calendar how much to use? What dose is your pen?

I dont have a calendar. Its for IUI. Looks like it goes to 300. I'm googling and I see 150 is common. I'm so upset that they never told me how much. Good thing There were only 3 boxes b/c I probably would have killed myself with the whole thing if there were 4.
I'm already beginning late on CD 4.

Yea I figured since I know you do iui but I use to get iui calendars. I would assume it's 150 since that's def a common dose but if u really don't know, I personally wouldn't chance it and call in the morning or take your chances and email dr b tonight. Sometimes he responds at late hours!! I wouldnt just guess, that's my opinion... And cd5 is still fine to start!

Also make sure it's really for 4 nights and not every other night. Usually for me it was every other night for iui cycles so def double check that!!

I'm sure he said either 75 or 150 so I guess u can always use 75 and then check tomorrow that way you don't risk using more than you are supposed to but I get overly cautious about these things

But I'm supposed to go for monitoring next monday so everything is already starting so late. Its dumb to take it next tues for the last dose when I'm probably going to trigger Monday. Ugh! I emailed but I'm sure he won't get it til tomorrow.

I mean I am SURE using 75 would be fine since that's the minimum that he would prescribe, I would think... I mean I typically used 150 but I didn't make anything on femara alone and you do.. right? .. so It might make sense for your dose to be less, but then again I really don't know.


I guess if it were me and I wasn't sure .. especially since its your first time using the drug ever.. is I'd use 75 tonight and then call in the morning ... but then again do what you feel comfortable with

Once I decided to do the 75 I couldnt figure out how to use the pen. I stuck myself 5 times and I couldnt get it to work. I read the directions 14 times. Maybe I'm just dumb.

you sound like me the first time i used the pen! i even posted here about it. a whole dose ended up on the floor and i was in tears.

did sandra or linda give you a piece of paper where they write down all your meds and the dosage? i do 150 every other night for 4 doses. i think you did the smart thing by doing 75 and then you can up it next time after you hear from dr. b.

no worries! it will work out and your follies will grow!!!! the first cycle i thought nothing was happening and then i had tons of follies! good luck!!!!!!!!!!

eta: once you dial to the dose, stick yourself and then push the top of the pen until it gets to 0. is that what you did?

wow to be honest i would've called/emailed dr. B like crazy or called the answering service and said it was an emergency or something. i would never do a dose of an injectable without knowing the dosage. i also really cant imagine that you weren't given an amount somewhere - that's really crazy!! i mean 75 is fine but he does go to 37.5 on rare occasions. chances are it was either 75 or 150 but why risk it?? waiting one day isnt going to negatively effect the cycle cd5 is just as good as cd4. plus you wouldn't trigger before the last dose anyway unless you were ready, in which case you wouldn't take the last dose. wit these meds you def can't assume you will trigger at a specific time, each cycle your reaction to the meds cocktail can be different. IMO its just too risky and $$ to just pick a random dose and do it...

I did email, but I still never got a reply. No one told me what to take or wrote anything down or explained how to do the shot. I assumed it would be a prefilled, one time thing like lovenox and ovidrel. Then I opened the box and saw dials I wasn't going to call emergency service and wake him up.

I pretty much know I'll trigger on monitoring day b/c I always have. I usually have at least 1 and most times 2 follies on just femara and trigger that night. Even when I began meds last month on CD5-9, he had me come in for monitoring on cd10 and I triggerd that night. By then my follie was at 27mm.

I don't know about the dosage as I am doing IVF,...BUT that pen is tricky! My DH did it step by step with the pictures and you tube. Def. check out you tube it helped!

And when all was said and done, I'm pretty sure I only got 37.5 and my floor and counter got the other 37.5

I'm so sorry you had to go through this! This process is stressful enough without this added confusion. Personally, I would be pretty upset with me dr. office. You should have gotten a class with a nurse to teach you how to use the pen, and a booklet with your meds explaining how to use it, and something in writing telling you how much to administer. I'd definitely tell your dr. IMO that's really unacceptable.

It sounds like you did the best you could, and I'm sure they'll be able to figure everything out today.

So they said 150. They said to do another 150 tonight since I didn't even get 75 last night. And they said I could have called the emergency line. It was late though and didn't want to wake anyone.
