Help...Currency Exchange in LI
I need to exchange USD for another currency but I can't find/don't know of any places on LI to do that on a Saturday. I found places in Manhattan but need some help.
Anyone know of a place in LI - Nassau?
Thanks!

try to find a bank to do it. The airports give the absolute worst rates.

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
I thought of the airport too but our flight leaves at 7am and I'm not sure that they will be open then. I am a baby when it comes to driving to JFK so I am kind of stuck in LI to get this done. I'm going to call my bank to see if they have any ideas but please keep them coming here.
Thanks!

Citibank has a teller that does money exchanges. I think some branches are open until 1.

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
I'd think at the airport as everyone else mentioned. You can also exchange it at the airport of the destination you are going. You will probably get a little better the exchange rate than here. You can also just exchange a small amount at the airport there and then exchange at one of those exchanges places at your destination.

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
If you use your ATM when you get to your destination you will get a good exchange rate. Your bank will charge you a nominal fee but it will be a better rate than doing it at a booth at the airport. Have a great trip!!!

Not necessarily. It really depends on location. She will definitely get a better exchange rate at her destination. And she will get a better rate at an exchange place there than the local banks at her destination, which usually have the same rate according to government standards. She just needs to make sure not to take too many large bills so that she can have the option of just exchanging a certain amount that she wants. Enjoy your trip!!!!

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
Thanks everyone - I guess we'll change it at our destination airport. Hopefully that will be possible - otherwise, do you think the hotel will be able to help us?

The American Express office on Old Country Road (in the same building as Joseph A. Bank) will exchange money. You don't have to order it. They have great hours, and we thought their rates were very good too....

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
what currency?
banks need an order to exchange. ATMs and credit cards give better rates than airports. i have done exchange so many times trust me on this....if you just need a small amount do like $30 at the airport and take out the rest when you get there. hotels rip you off as well.
http://www.xe.com/
has good currency rates, so check them before you leave.

Re: Help...Currency Exchange in LI
Just use your ATM card at a machine when you get to your destination. I never have cash when I travel anymore, I use my ATM at the airport. You do get the best rate using a credit card or a cash card, a currency exchange place will take a percentage

Was just going to suggest this. I used to work in foreign currency exchange. Airports rates aren't horrible. Best rate is from using your credit card at your destination (that's what I found).
