Here is a global warming spinoff question
Regardless of your political affliliation, WHY does it matter to some if the claims are exaggerated a bit or not?
people keep saying "I don't think it's as bad as the media claim" and whatnot.
but what difference does it make if it's a little bad or a lot bad?
I just don't get this mentality at all.
do we wait until it IS as bad as Al Gore claims (if you don't beleive it's there already) what?
does saying "it's not as bad' mean we can still keep abusing the earth?

Re: Here is a global warming spinoff question
I think it's terrific that the "hype" has created a fad of reducing, reusing, and recycling, and "going" organic. That's all that matters to me.
eta- I think saying "its not as bad as they make it sound" means you acknowledge that there IS a problem, so you should obviously be doing your part to help.

I think this is why a lot of people say it. If "it's not that bad" then they don't have to change their lifestlye that much.

I just think that by misleading the public - you are taking away from the credibility of the argument. Just educate people and those that want to change WILL and those that don't WON'T regardless of how bad you make it seem. JMO

What?? No, there is no agrument to the credibility of global warming. It is happening. I don't understand this? I can't believe that people are even debating this. Regardless of how "bad" or "mild" the situation is...why wouldn't we do something to stop the destruction of our one and only precious planet now? Take it seriously! You have to!

I don't get it either. Common sense tells me it's easier to fix a problem while it's small (relatively speaking here) rather than big.

Ok relax I meant that in general. . . I DO believe that global warming is exaggerated but I ALSO believe that we should do everything we can to stop it before it gets too late.
What I meant was with ANY argument. If you make a point, and then I do my own research and find that it is exaggerated - I am going to doubt the validity of the ENTIRE argument. People do not appreciate being misled - even if it is for their own good.

Trust me, I'm pretty relaxed. My son is finally napping. But...there is no misleading going on. I think in order to open people's eyes or have them pay attention to something...it has to really sound very serious. Is that a bad thing when dealing with our earth?

Can you please tell me who is being mislead and in what way?

Re: Here is a global warming spinoff question
Okay, this post is asking. . ."who cares if there global warming is exaggerated?" And I answered THAT question. I am saying that it DOES matter if it is because that WILL turn people off from listening to the entire argument.

exactly.
b/c, honestly, those that don't give a shiit are not going to do anything whether it is the BIGGEST deal in the world or just a small amount of expected climate change.

Re: Here is a global warming spinoff question
People live in a bubble.....what doesnt touch them doesnt affect them. Saying I dont think its a major problem means not having to make changes either in response.

so then why put that argument forth at all?
if you know you aint' gonna give a **** regardless of how "big" the problem is...why even go there?
and Tilde, as far as milseading the public, I think how an individual interprets the actual data is subjective.
the facts cannot be changed, but they can be spun in either direction.
but regardless of the spinning, facts are still facts!!!!!!!
