Here's my crazy night story...take this as a lesson that ER drs sometimes dont know anything! Warning TMI!!

So, as you all know I posted last night that I was gushing blood.... it stopped, then I went to the bathroom again a few minutes later and a big blop (for lack of a better word) came out very bloody... I saw what looked like "tissue" in the toilet bowl... I freaked out, and I called my dr, he said to go to the ER and if I could, bring it with me... so I did... ugh, disgusting. I get to the ER at Mid Island in Bethpage...closest hospital to me.... the triage nurse was sooo mean... basically just said yup, looks like a misscarriage... I was getting so upset... he's like "why are you getting so upset" you're fine... um, okay ___hole.... so DH and gramma are getting pissy.... we're waiting and waiting... finally they take me in, and the nurse comes in with her hands filled with an IV, fluids, blood tubes etc... I was like WHOAH>.. hold on... I want a sono first before you put anything in my arm... she's like, well if you are misscarrying then you could go into shock or pass out... I'm like... listen, I'll take my chances.... so she gets all huffy... and gets the ER dr... he comes in and says he wants to examine me, I agree... I does a vaginal exam and flat out says to me... "You had a complete misscarriage"... but the good news is that you arent bleeding anymore, so you probably wont have to have a D&C, but we'll do a sono to see if anything is left in there.... so now DH is in shock and I am completely hysterical and the nurse is telling me how sorry she is.... so we wait, and wait, and wait... its now about 3am and finally the wheelchair comes to pick me up cause the sono tech has arrived... we go up to the second floor and DH comes with me... I say to her, can he please come in... she says "NO honey, this is not like we're doing a sono to see the baby, this is something different"... I'm like...um...okay... great... so I lay down on the table and she tells me she's gonna do a sono on the outside of my belly first... I said okay, that they've never done that before, but fine... so she starts doing it, and I'm waiting for her to say something... then she goes into a story about how she always checks outside first because many times the ER dr's downstairs call her and tell her there is a misscarriage or ecstopic pregnancy and they are wrong... I was like... oh, well do you see anything? (I meant any tissue left)... she then goes (YES,.. the baby is still little)... I was like THE BABY???? THE BABY IS ALIVE??? SHE SAYS>>> YES... let me keep looking... so she does an internal sono, and we see the peanut and the heartbeat and everything is good... she said she sees a little bit of blood by the cervix... she explains that I basically had my period... she says it happens to a lot of women, that's why you hear those stories that women dont know they are preggo until they are like 4 months along... then she called DH in to see the little bean... My legs were shaking uncontrollably, I just was in shock... we were so happy... so they brought me back down to ER and the ER Dr was avoiding us like the plague... I show him the sono pics... he's like Well, there's definitely a baby in there... maybe that tissue was another sac, for a twin... I was like... um...not according to the SONO tech... ugh... so we're waiting... its now almost 5 am (we got there around 12:45)... my bloods come back good, except my White Blood Cells are a little elevated... so they make me do a clean catch urine and tell me its gonna be a while longer... At that point I was like...um... no, if its anything its a urine infection... just call me.... so finally we got discharged. We got home around 5:45am!!
Forward to today--- my gyno calls me this morning cause he's worried about me, and he was soooooooo ****** off about the ER dr after I told him the story, and he said that EVERY pregnant woman's White Blood Cells are slightly elevated Chat Icon He told me to come in on tues and they'll do another sono, but everything sounds good.
So ladies, that is my terrible story... lessons to be learned are 3
1) Red blood isnt always terrible.
2) NEVER LET THEM DO ANYTHING TO YOU THAT YOU ARENT SURE OF... I would have been sitting there with an IV for NOTHING!!
3)Always wait for a sono before you get too worried!!
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Oh, and I said to my dr... watch "this child is a female, cause males arent this much of a pain in the butt!!"...lolol
oh, and everyone is telling me I should write a letter to the head of the ER,.. which I think I may just do!!

I can't even imagine what you went throughChat Icon What an emotional rollercoaster!

I can speak from experience that their are plenty of doctors out there who don't know @#$%. Usually it's the nurses and techs that know a lot more. What idiots!!

I hate that hospital. I don't think they even have a maternity ward anymore, I can now see why!!

I am so happy that you and the baby are okay Chat Icon

That is horrible!!! I can't imagine what you must have gone through, thank goodess it turned out with your peanut being ok! I would definitely take some course of action against the hospital, especially since the way they treated you. Hope you're feeling better! Chat Icon

That is very strange. I would sent your posting to the head of that hospital. I think they should be aware of the lack of intellect and compassion their staff has for patients.

I am so glad that everything is alright- I have been thinking about you. I CANNOT believe what you had to go through- I would definitely write a letter to the board, their behavior was unacceptable. This may be something they deal with frequently but to tell someone they are probably MC'ing and be so flippant about it is absolutely disgusting.

Again, I am so happy that you and your little peanut are alright!

I cannot believe what you went through. You are sooo much better then me. I would have been arrested or on the news for the holy hell I would have caused once I found out I was and my baby was OK. They definatly would have had to have security escort me out and I would have been calling that a-hole dr...exactly THAT!

That is UNACCEPTABLE. Dont they know what that stress could have done to you.

OMG, Im just in shock an appauled!
