Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland
Hi all, Can you please tell me all I need to know about these two? I went to Hershey when I was little but never venture there again because the drive is a little far for me. I’m going to try really hard and do it this year.
I will have an 18 month old and a 12 year old by this summer. What’s a good game plan for us? Can the 12 year old participate on rides with the baby at Dutch? What’s the new Cartoon Network hotel there? How many days would we need at each place?
My go to is usually Sesame Place for the little ones so this is new to me. Thanks again
Edited to add: do you do the water park section at Hershey?

Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland
Dutch Wonderland is perfect for an 18 month old but a 12 year old may be bored. They can participate on the rides with the 18 month old though (there may be a couple that they can't). Hershey may be a better option as they have most of the DW rides mixed in amongst larger rides.
Each place has a preview that you can go in a few hours the night before - which is helpful (I'm not sure if they eliminated that with Covid). We were able to do Dutch Wonderland in one day (with the preview). Hershey is a big bigger but we did it in one day with the preview though - we prefer doing it two days though (with preview).
If it's really hot - we do the water park section at Hershey. It's nice but it gets really crowded so we try to get there as soon as it opens.
I hadn't realized they opened a CN hotel near there - it looks great.

Re: Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland
We are taking my boys to Hershey this summer. THey'll be 12 and 9. We've gone a few summer (except last year of course). Boys love it.
From what I hear the 12 yr old probably won't care for Dutch Wonderland. There are a lot of little kid rides for your 18 month old at Hershey that's spread around throughout the park and your 12 yr old will love all the older rides too. I think for those 2 ages Hershey will be better.
Yes, we do waterpark in the afternoon usually after or right before lunch and then you can dry off walking around after.

Re: Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland
DW is a stretch for a 12 year old but if she is the type to enjoy seeing things through the eyes of a toddler it could work.
Hershey might be a better fit. We enjoy it although I find it exhausting. I feel like it's always hot AF there (no breeze) and there are tons of hills. It's the type of vacation I need a vacation from when it's over.

Lol, yes! I almost passed out there 2 years ago. It wasn't just hot it was humid AF. The air felt like there was no air. I really felt the beginnings of heat exhaustion and had to go sit down and drink a ton of water. And yes, the hills. I feel like it's uphill both ways throughout the whole park! And this year with masks, not looking forward to it- but still going. It's definitely a ton of fun Just exhausting. LOL

I think 12 might be too old for DW. I’d probably skip and do Hershey. An 18 month old kind of just takes it all in anyway and a day in an amusement park with a bored 12 year old sounds miserable.

I think I would skip Dutch wonderland. 12 year old might be a little old for it and the 18 month will probably too young for most of the rides. Might not be worth it.

Re: Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland
We went to both parks last year with my then 12 YO and my 4 YO. Dutch wonderland is cute but it's definitely geared more to little kids. My youngest enjoyed it a lot my oldest enjoyed some of the things but not as much as my 4YO.
Hershey park on the other hand is wonderful for everyone. We love Hershey
Our favorite hotel to stay at is the Eden Resorts. Its about 10 minutes from Dutch Wonderland and 40 minutes from Hershey.

Hershey is great. Just don't go for Halloween or Spring. 4 hour waits for roller coasters today. So packed. My sister is there today and ended up paying the $140 per person fee to get the line skipping pass. Same story in October. So busy there.
