Re: hey Mr. Suozzi
I heard about that. I can't beleive he is forcing Nassau County employees to take a 7% pay cut or risk losing your job. I hope the top honchos follow and take the pay cut too if they don't they should be called out on it.

Your optimism is cute
How could he pay for his hair care if he took a cut in pay?

One can only hope that his across the board statement includes everyone. It's a heck of a lot better than unemployment.

IDK what the future holds for Nassau but they need to get their butts in gear - the County is in big-time $$ trouble. I hope it works out.

You know I also got a letter from my oil company Heat USA saying that he wants to start taxing home heating oil... and that we should call and write to his office to tell him to not do it.

IDK what the future holds for Nassau but they need to get their butts in gear - the County is in big-time $$ trouble. I hope it works out.
You are right but maybe Suozzi needs to start cutting the big guys instead of hitting on the little gov employees. He made sure he got his share last year. But he sure is having a difficult time helping out the workers who get next to nothing to begin with.
I think if the govt has to make cuts they need to start with themselves.

This is so upsetting to read, Most of these pay cuts are to people who are barely making it right now and depend on every dime they make to pay their bills, wether they get a pay cut or layed off its just absolutely horrible and so unfair

I know people are just going to DIE when I say this but I think he is going to have to bite the bullet and raise taxes a little... Instead of the tax on this and the tax on that and the surcharge on this and give us 7% of your salary, etc. etc. etc...... at that point, just freaking raise taxes and get it over with. KWIM?
When it comes down to it - I don't know what the answer is. I just hope no one loses their jobs.

Raising taxes isn't the answer- having COMPETENT people handle our money IS.

If they don't give him the 7% they are going to lay off workers, and take 10% from the workers who are left. He needs to tax, because this is only a temporary fix. Not to mention he went way over on County court renovation. About 65 million over.

Re: hey Mr. Suozzi
I think it is disgusting how finances are handled at the upper ranks - no matter what the county, town or company. I am sure if we all had a peek at where the $$ is really going, it would be an eye-opener. I am just shooting from the hip here, but what about taking away county cars, limiting travel, or cutting out an exec dinner here or there. It's a persons JOB & INCOME, not to be taken lightly IMO

I should have made this more clear -- I think they need to cut all the wasteful spending AND maybe raise taxes a little to try and help them "get head" because they are SO far behind... I say raise them a little for everyone rather than have to take a big chunk of change like 7% from just some people -- because, either way, someone is feeling the pinch and they are taking money no matter what -- but at least this is not focused on one group of people, KWIM?
I agree with you - but, in reality, is that ever going to happen? Probably not. I wish they would figure out what is wrong with the County - WHY they are in the red -- WHAT they are wasting money on and FIX it -- that simple. Cut wasteful spending -- will that ever happen?
It really suucks - Doing this 7% thing, raising taxes, etc. it is all putting a bandaid on a much bigger problem -- It is like trying to stop up a dam with magic putty!!! Doing this will help for about six months - maybe a year and then this is going to happen all over again because the ROOT of the issue is not being dealt with... By then, however, Suozzi probably figures he'll be out (in a bigger position) and it'll be someone else's problem... Just like the County Exec before him who was SO in the red and left it lying in Suozzi's lap to deal with -- they pass the torch but no one ever SOLVES anything.
OYYYYY!!!!

Or his drivers that he has and his car!! If he gives all that back then maybe I will give something back. Layoff cops and medics and watch what the ones left will ring up in overtime. What do we want to leave the public with a shortage of cops and ambulances???

Before raising our taxes or asking us to make sacrifices, they should look to see why we in such debt, and where all the money is going.

Re: hey Mr. Suozzi
what REALLY irritates me is that the non-union workers all got big raises last year, while union county workers got nothing.
officials argued that union workers get automatic "step" raises every year which is NOT TRUE if you have been working for the COUNTY longer than 12 years. the step raises STOP, they do not go on indefinitely.
plus as far as i know, county workers did NOT get the COLA raise yet this year - we were supposed to, but it didn't go into effect yet, and now it looks like it might not at all.
i don't even mind giving up the COLA raise - didn't have it last year, i know we can survive without it - but don't LIE to the public, knowing that they don't know any better.
want to see something interesting i got in an email?
These five Nassau officials received double-digit percentage salary increases in advance of County Executive Thomas Suozzi's hiring freeze.
INDIVIDUAL POSITION PERCENT
RAISE NEW SALARY
Ian R. Siegel Director of constituent affairs 32.0% $130,000
Frank Ryan Director of purchasing 21.7% $115,000
Marilyn S. Gottlieb Director of government relations 27.0% $110,000
Maude Vincent Deputy county treasurer 33.8% $90,000
Denis J. Monette Assistant commissioner of police 28.2% $88,729

Re: hey Mr. Suozzi
I just heard that legislative and Suozzi gave themselves another raise this year. Then have the audacity to ask our workers to give up their pay. Apparently Suozzi has said that he will take a pay cut but he is going to cut the raise that he just gave himself so that in reality it does not affect him or the legislature. But we are expected to live on less and we make peanuts to begin with.
SO before you criticize our county workers and the guys who are out there during these snow storms, all night, trying their best to plow roads, give them a break. They do a really good job and very rarely rewarded. My Dh has not seen any increase in salary for two years and now it looks like it will be even longer.
