Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Hi ladies,
quick backstory--- my DH and I got pregnant on our first try on my 30th birthday 12/31/09 (New Year's Eve)-- We were elated-- however at the 10 week appt on 3/3/10 there was no heartbeat and the baby had stopped growing at 8w6d-- it was torture!
amazingly we got a BFP on 7/4/10 and I have had a difficult time relaxing-- in other words I panic-- the m/c ripped all the innocence out of pregnancy for me---- anyway today I had my thrid sonogram i am 11 weeks-- heartbeat was good--- a little bit of anxiety is gone but there is still such a long way to go--- but considering we made it further than last time i am trying to be happy about small milestones!!
well i just wanted to introduce myself and congratulate all of you ladies-- i def have been lurking for the past 11 weeks but I need to stop being afraid and you girls are such a support!!
My 12 week NT scan is next Friday and as you can imagine I am extremely nervous-- can you ladies be so kind and explain your experiences with the scan?? I want to get it done but I truly don;t want to even worry more if they say something like your chances of down's is 1 in 200 --- you know? any mind easing you can provide is GREATLY appreciated--- Thanks again girls and i am proud to be joining the best chat board on the internet!!!!!
P.S. due date St. Paddy's Day!!!

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Congrats and welcome !
From what I recall from my NT scans, I don't ever recall being given specific #'s ( as in 1 in 200 etc..) ....They just said everything looks great...I know that they measure the fold on the back of the babys neck and maybe take some other measurements
I am also a march mommy to be ( due date of March 27) but since I am a scheduled c-section I may very well have a St.Paddys baby as well

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Congratulations & welcome!!!!
I can't even imagine what you have gone through, but I want to give you lots of hugs and send you tons of good vibes for your next appointment and for you to be able to enjoy your pregnancy.
My NT scan was actually very quick. They basically did an external sono and it took about 10-15 minutes to get all the measurements. I did mine at 11 w 4 d so the tech didn't even take a guess at the baby's gender. But they got all the measurements they needed and the doctor went over them with me a week later at my 12-week appointment. They also took a vial of blood to complete the tests.
At my age (31), I was told the general DS risk is 1/287. After my test, my doctor told me our risk was 1/10,000. I'm not sure where it stands now since they saw a white spot on her heart at my anatomy scan at 19 w 3 d, but the specialist told us a week later that the spot is not a soft marker for any abnormality and the doctor has since concluded that it means she has a dense heart muscle (he said it's "strong") and nothing is wrong.
Sometimes I feel like more testing leads to more questions and concerns that wouldn't be there otherwise.
Just be excited about another chance to see your LO (some girls have said their NT ultrasound is as long as 30 minutes - 45 minutes!) and to feel more secure about what's going on in your belly.
Wishing you all the best for your little Irish lad or lass to be! 3/17 is a very neat due date!

I think it depends on the OB....
With mine, I have the NT scan at the OB's office and my appt immediately follows with the doctor (same day)
ETA- Noit sure if thats the day they take the blood also, so maybe thats where the #'s come in
Either way, mine never gave me a #, just that we were fine...I think I like being naive

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
My doc didn't even tell me numbers. He just said everything was excellent!!!!
If the doc suggests you get blood work again after the scan do not worry. That is normal. It doesn't mean there is a problem.
I am soooo glad you came out and started posting here!!!
This is an amazing group of girls and you will have a very solid support team and the prayers and hugs truly work!!!
So here are some in advance to help your fears subside!!!!
Welcome!!!

Welcome!
I had the bloodwork for the nt scan the week before the actual scan so right after the scan the dr sat down with us and gave us the numbers. I don't remember what they were...all I heard was that they were excellent.
good luck! and enjoy the long sono of your LO

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Welcome! I just had my NT scan last Monday but have not gotten my results yet. . I am hoping my doc willl call me on Monday - my place said they usually take 3-5 days to get results but I have no idea if that's standard since a PP said they got their back the same day.
My scan did last a long time (30+minutes bc they kept trying to get baby to flip over who refused and eventuallly they just time out) after it was over they did a blood test and said everything looked good from the scan but they wouldnt know everything until they got the blood test back. I AM getting a little anxious but just seeing the sonogram has calmed me so much.
So I would say just enjoy the scan, tryi to relax and have fun! If you can DEF bring your DH with you!

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Just wanted to say congratulations to the pregnancy board!!
The NT Scan with my first was a simple sono with bloodwork. I was able to call my midwife within a few days and she gave me the results over the phone.
I think typically the doctor would call you if something comes back abnormal. But if the results all look fine they will go over the tests when you come back in for your next appointment.

Re: Hi girls-- cautiously joining you.....
Aw, I've been there too. Had 3 early miscarriages before this one (never got as far as to hear a heartbeat). It definitely steals some of the joy out of pregnancy. I hated how stressful this entire first trimester was for me, which was why I also waited to join this site or tell anybody until after I was out of that whole 'scary stage'. I also celebrated milestones, like you. I think it's good to do that.
I'm afraid I can't give much info on the 12 week appt though because at mine it was very short. She just listened to the heartbeat and that's it. We didn't do any sonogram (that was all done at the 8 week and will be done again at the 20). So I'm not sure what you should expect with your doctor, but I wish you all the luck. I'm sure everything will be good
Congratulations and welcome to the board!!!!
