hmm
what do you think?
When I accepted my last job, I took it with a 20k decrease in salary b/c a) i thought i'd be with that company for a while and be promoted within two yrs which would make me bonus elig again and raise my base salary and I'd be ahead. and b) i was nervous about not getting another job and i had a wedding to pay for that year
I got laid off a year later. Now I've been unemployed for a full year. Tomorrow I'm interviewing with a company where I have a feeling my salary would be another 10k less than my job that I was laid off from. SO. If this is the case I'll be 30k behind where I was three years ago! I was thinking that if I got the job I'd take it and continue looking for another one that puts me back in the same salary range as before. Mostly I'm nervous of how long it would take to find another job and that I might as well be getting paid something than nothing. Am I being short sighted?
Who knows, maybe I won't even get the job. But, I am going stir crazy at home doing nothing and getting kind of depressed too. WWYD>

Re: hmm
If I were you, I would probably take it, because like you said, some salary is better than no salary at all. You can always keep your eyes out for something better while you're working.

Re: hmm
what field are you in? are you starting to see more jobs advertised? can you afford to hold out for a better opportunity?
It might honestly be better to wait it out. The only concern I have for you taking the job is that it could be harder to interview when you are at another company
dh was unemployed end of may- and he got an offer in june- but it was awful, so he opted not to take it- he ended up getting an offer that was $10k more than what he was making at his last company in October.
good luck no matter what you decide.

Re: hmm
If this is a job you want, then you should negotiate. Just because you are unemployed doesn't mean you're not entitled to! I was unemployed when I was offered my current position and I negotiated up to the salary of my last job. To me it's an insult, especially if you have been doing the job for quite a number of years. You obviously contribute to the company so prove to them you are worth the money!
