Hmmm, Working FT and the Scheduling

It's tricky, very tricky! I was told DS would start OT next Monday, so I scrambled around at work and switched hours with someone else and reassigned some work, thought everything was settled. Then I got a call today that DSs first OT session will need to be rescheduled.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm also finding it hard to schedule some of the extra services I feel might help him that the school district isn't providing. Most take place during weekday hours.

I'm really wondering if I can keep my job and get DS the care he needs. It's full-time, I'm in charge of a dept. and at the moment, I don't really have a supervisor to hand anything over to. My hours are somewhat flexible, but I work for a public agency--we need people here certain hours of the day and to do programs at certain set times. Working the appts. around all of that is hard.

Just wanted to vent and see if anyone else had this problem initially and found things settled down later?

We both work FT. Our therapists go to daycare to give him services. We didn't want to worry about doing it at home and DS being tired.

luckily, most services will be done at his daycare. two OT sessions will take place at a sensory gym, which is something I really wanted for him.

I guess it will settle down in time. Right now I am also making time to meet his other therapists, so there is more to arrange at the moment, but it won't always be that way.

Re: Hmmm, Working FT and the Scheduling

I could not agree with you more. We both work FT and couldn't afford to give up one of our salaries. We're already strapped. I feel like it never ends too. My DS gets 20-hours a week of in-home ABA (they go to my in-laws and daycare during the day and back to our house at night). I am always rushing around trying to get home for services or parent training. It's stressful. The if we cancel or they have to, we get stuck doing makeups on the weekends!

Thank goodness he was approved for full-day preschool in the fall. I never thought I would wish away the summer, but I really cannot wait until all of his services are taking place at school.

It does settle down once you are in a routine. After you meet the therapists, they can do sessions at daycare. Can you leave a little early those 2 days a week? My job doesn't really allow me to do that, so we just scheduled the extra sessions in the evening at home.
