I was just looking at my news feed on FB and was thinking the same thing. And I too am disgusted. This is a very slippery slope.

So...what happens if mammograms and gynecological cancer screenings are against someone else's religion?

Effect on women's health/employment much?

Or what if a religion doesn't believe that the races should mix?

Where does this awful ruling end?

Disgusted. If anyone thinks there is no war on women in this country I don't know how they can deny it now.

Re: Hobby Lobby ruling?

I was going to post this last night but fell asleep. This is ridiculous. John Oliver said it about something else but it rings true here as well - if someone from the 1950s got in a time machine and came to 2014, they would think their time machine was broken Chat Icon

In all seriousness, our rights and freedoms are only our own until they infringe on someone else's rights and freedoms. I'm so confused by how this was allowed to happen. Confused and disheartened.

Thing is, their religious freedom was NEVER infridged upon. A corporation is NOT a person. The Hobby Lobby people, David Green, have always been able to practice their religion as they see fit. They did not lose their religious freedom, it was NOT infringed upon. Instead, they took away the reproductive rights and infringed upon their employess rights but taking away a service that they dont personally administer or provide.

Its not about their religious beliefs at all, its is about an ultra-conservative billionaire taking on "Obamacare". I swear if people referred to it as ACA, there wouldnt have been half the uproar over it.

And for the record, Romneycare in MA provided the same contraceptive coverage and you didnt hear a peep from anyone about it.

It sets SUCH a bad precedent.

With respect to this comment only, the first amendment, by its text, does not limit religious freedom to an individual. Look at the language concerning "individuals" "citizens" and "persons" in other excerpts of the constitution. It's not the same.

The bright side is, this was a considerably narrow ruling.

Re: Hobby Lobby ruling?

Hobby Lobby's 401(k) plan includes about $73 million in mutual funds with investments in pharmecutical companies that produce contraceptive pills, IUDs and drugs commonly used in abortions.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't see at as an infringement upon a woman's reproductive rights. While an employer may not have to offer a health plan that covers birth control, the employer cannot prevent female employees from obtaining it. I've had to pay OOP for OCP to treat endo in the past because the brand I needed wasn't covered by my insurance. It's not that expensive and wasn't really that big a deal.

And corporations are treated, for legal reasons, as a "person" for many purposes, so that aspect of the ruling is nothing new.

Re: Hobby Lobby ruling?

It's ALWAYS about the money when it comes to these corporations.
Make no mistake. It's never about religion, or beliefs or anything other than the almighty dollar.
Even things like hospitals not providing formula or making the babies room in. They claim it's to be "baby friendly" but let's face it. It's ALL about the money.

Obviously they think it does since ovulation is prevented by some methods of birth control.

It's horrifying. A giant leap backwards for women. Yet Viagra will still be covered I'm sure.
