Hofstra Summer Camp Program
I'm going back to work full time and need a full day program for my soon to be 11yo son. We are looking at Hofstra. Has anyone tried their summer camp program. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Hofstra Summer Camp Program
I work there as a counselor. The camp is a well-oiled machine and very well run. All the kids seem to truly enjoy the camp. At 11 I believe that they can pick from the specialty camps so your son will get to pick things based on his interests. (I work in the cub camp with the little ones, so I don't have ALL the answers, but if you have any questions I'll try to answer them as best I can).

Hofstra Summer Camp Program
The camp is very well run. Things to consider, sports camps are outdoors, almost entirely - if you choose a camp on the turf IT IS HOT. If you choose a week of sports camp and a week of non-sports you have to pay TWO registration fees. If you choose a specialty camp - it's only 1/2 day and the other half it rec and swimming (swimming is indoors). My child LOVED adventure camp, but after the second year got bored with the 1/2 day of rec (same age as your son). It all depends on the camp you choose - just ask them what a typical day looks like. Buses leave you the pick up time the day before too - which is hard to manage if you are planning a work schedule. You also have to consider that with changing every two weeks - you have to be prepared to TIP every two weeks. All in all, my child LOVED the camp, the counselors were great and structure was amazing. We were on campus for another event this summer and you can SEE the planning and dedication they have to the kids. They knew when the kids were crossing the street and had people riding over on golf carts to be on both sides AND in the middle of the street to make sure the kids were crossed safely. There is a union discount, so if you belong to a union (even NEFCU) make sure you use that, I also recently got an email for $200 off -- I dont think they let you combine....
