Holding his own bottle
He is kinda doing this now...However- he hasnt mastered the skill YET....
Since he's the boss and all- he wont let me help him... but in turn- letting him doing it himself... results in him only eating like half his bottle...
How can I trick him into letting me help him?

Re: Holding his own bottle
I'm no expert, but this might be the ideal time to switch to a sippy cup with handles!

I do offer him the sippy cup- and he's has no concept on how to get anything out of it!

Re: Holding his own bottle
I think its an association thing...he needs to associate the sippy cup with being where his milk comes from. My friend is currently having this problem with her two year old...she still will only drink from a bottle and she doesn't want to hold it, someone else has to hold it for her.

Re: Holding his own bottle
What type fo bottle does he use? Advent makes handles that attach to the bottle.
What I do for Mattingly is after he stops drinking with me holding, I put him in the bouncer or where the arm of the couch meets the back and I hand him to bottle to let him put it in his mouth, and then I hold it up. If he doesn't put it in his mouth by himself he gets ******.

Re: Holding his own bottle
Jack NEVER once held his own bottle, but he would hold a sippy. It helped make the transition super easy since he wasn't attached the bottle. We no longer have any bottles in the house now!!
Could he be eating less because he is teething?

Teeth seem to be the root of all problems!
However- I notice alot of fustration when I help him out...Its like literally- Im just not allowed to touch it.

Emily gets that way also sometimes and she gets all bent out of shape -- pushes me away and ends up pushing the bottle onto the floor at the same time. She is so strong-willed sometimes it drives me nuts!

Re: Holding his own bottle
We would put a diaper cloth underneath the bottle & hold it a little bit on the bottom.

Re: Holding his own bottle
When she was in the hospital the nurses said to me that she had quite a temper -- and I was like -- my sweet little girl -- NO way!
But she really has a major attitude sometimes. And I consider both DH and I to be relatively mellow so she must have gotten it from the grandparents -- unless I have an attitude and just don't know it.
She is also doing this now with baby-food. Totally wanting to be independent. She grabs the spoon out of my hand, uses her other hand to scoop the food off of the spoon with her fingers, then smears it on the highchair tray and little by little licks it all up with her fingers.
She just wants to do everything herself reguardless of the mess. Stubborn girl!

Re: Holding his own bottle
My mother ALWAYS took Jared's hands and put them on the bottle everytime she fed him. He started doing it on his own...

Re: Holding his own bottle
he tries but he flings it everywhere, he ends up holding my nose or my hair
Teething is the root of alot of problems...his new thing now is he has to be totally upright to drink his bottle, I don't know if it is because of teething

Re: Holding his own bottle
He leans his head back and then holds the bottle up more, when he realizes that nothing is coming out of the bottle.
