Holiday gifts for an intern/student teacher?
I have an intern this year, and I'd like to get her something for Christmas and her birthday (on 12/31). I am drawing a total blank on gift ideas. Any suggestions?

When I finished my student teaching placement, my cooperating teacher gave me a subscription to Instructor magazine. I appreciated it because I get some great ideas out of every issue.

I was thinking of having the kids make a class book for her, buying her some kind of book, and giving her a gift certificate to the teacher store, or Borders.

When I was an intern the GC I was working for took me to lunch, which was nice. I have done the same for my interns....the man I work with got our intern a "starter kit" a cple helpful games and things like that it was cute.

I know you're a GC so I assume your intern is trying to get a job as a GC. I would get a gift card to one of the bookstores - that way it can be used for related books - college guides, group counseling activities book, etc.

I'd get her anything from the Educational Warehouse! Being a new teacher, buying all that school stuff can get expensive!

Re: Holiday gifts for an intern/student teacher?
Hmm as a student teacher, from one teacher I received a poem that the kids wrote for me as a class and cards that they wrote me....... and the other teacher gave me a little photo album for my wedding pictures (I was getting married the week after my placement ended)
HOWEVER........ I thought the best gifts were some that my friends received. I knew many people who got baskets of things for the classroom (markers, stickers, office supplies, etc) Some also got a "how to" guide for first year teachers.
Personally.. and I know this will sound lame........... but I was disappointed with my gifts relative to what my friends received! Of course I was appreciative, and they didn't have to get me anything AT ALL but I always thought the basket of classroom supplies, etc was so more more creative!
