Holiday gifts for teachers- new questions for me

In the past, my son had 1 teacher and my daughter had a baby sitter.

This year, my son is in a co- teaching class. The special ed teacher splits her time between two classes and doesn't work with my son. Do I get her the same gift as the gen ed teacher? Someone said not to get her a gift but I think that's weird.

My daughter is now in preschool with a teacher and 2 assistants. What is appropriate for them?

Gift cards are always appreciated!

The co-teaching class technically has 2 teachers whether or not the special education teacher is working with your child or not.

So when my DD was in a co teaching class, and wasn't one of the inclusion students, I did not get her an individual gift from my daughter, but contributed to the one the class was giving her. This teacher only pushes in for 42 minutes a day and pulled out for resource room . (that is how our inclusions classes work), I did have to fight for that though. They were collecting for the gen ed teacher, and I said what about the special ed teacher? I was told if I think she should be included, I can write a note myself to the inclusion kids and collect the money. Say what?! Needless to say, the class moms realized how awful that sounded and collected for her from the entire class.

My son is in 4th grade and he's been in an inclusion class (co-teaching) 3 times, basically every other year. Those classes have the main teacher, a special ed teacher who pushes in for a half day, plus a full time aide and sometimes a part-time aide.

My son is not a special ed student and does not utilize the special ed teachers.

As another poster said, I contribute to the class gift for all of the teachers and aides in the room, but I usually just give an individual gift to the main classroom teacher.

But the special ed teacher does not participate in my parent-teacher conferences or weigh in on report card or anything, because my son is not on her "roster."

This year I may give a gift to the classroom aide because there's just one (as opposed to some years when there were many and some were one-on-one aides).

I think gift cards are always most appreciated!

Thank you for asking this. My gen ed son is in the co-teaching inclusion class for the first time this year and I was just thinking about this. There’s the gen ed teacher, special ed push in teacher (according to their schedule it looks like she pushes in for 3 periods per day), and a part time TA. I’m still deciding how much to give each. The gen ed more? But how much more?

I am a special ed teacher in an inclusion class...my situation seems different because I coteach with the gen ed teacher all day. Due to the way our model is, I always give the same gifts to both teachers when my girls have been in inclusion (gen ed students) because I know that the special ed teacher is teaching my girls as well as the special ed students. I would personally never leave out anyone who works in the room, so I would do something even if you don't want to give equal gifts to both.

My DD was in inclusion last year (she’s not a special ed student). I gave gift cards to the main teacher and the 2 aides but I gave the main teacher a bit more than the aides.

That's how inclusion classes are in my school. Both teachers are there all day and track both sides. This situation is new to me.

Yes I think it depends on the model.

If there wasn't a class gift given to the special ed teacher, then I would probably get her some kind of gift, even though my son isn't a special ed student. I just feel like I contribute to the class fund, so no need to get something extra for the special ed teacher (but I will usually give an individual gift to the main teacher).

Or if the teacher was in the room all day and worked more with my son (sort of as a co-teacher for all students), I for sure would acknowledge her with an individual gift.

This is how it is in our school too for most classes.

The class moms collect the same amount for each teacher and I would give them the same gift since they teach together (but we haven’t had a co-teach class yet)

I guess each school is different.

My daughter is a gen ed student in an inclusion class, but both teachers work with all the students. The special ed teacher isn't there day day, but she does teach to the full class for certain subjects, answers individual questions and gives assistance to all students in the class. My daughter loves the special ed teacher in the room.

I would never leave her out if I was giving gifts - maybe something smaller is appropriate, but I would never exclude because she's technically not assigned to my child,

Yup each is different. In our district the special ed teacher does not teach the entire class at all. She never taught the gen ed students or helped them, she was only in there for her 5 or 6 students for 42 minutes and specifically worked with those students only. But, should definitely be included in the class pool gift, without a doubt!
