Is anyone else really afraid? I know that I'm just being paranoid..but that Home Invasion that happened in Ct. was just so sad and horrible, Is anyone else afraid? oh and I do have an alarm!

Re: Home Invasions
I may sound naive...but I don't "worry" about it. If it's going to happen, there wouldn't be much I could do in advance. Hopefully, it never happens....

Re: Home Invasions
I was just talking about this with DH this morning (due to my open door post) and I CAN NOT and WILL NOT worry about it.
Maybe I am being stupid about it - but you know what I am not living my life in fear and teaching my child the same way of life.
If that was the case I would never drive then either - cause I ALWAYS fear I will die in a car accident, but you know what I drive about every day.

Re: Home Invasions
I do fear something happening! I wish I didn't but I do. I make sure all windows that someone could potentially come into are closed and locked. I guess if they really want to do it they would just break the window.

Re: Home Invasions
I have had MAJOR ANXIETY since that happened in Ct. I keep having nightmares.
Ive always been afraid of a home invasion, its probably my biggest fear. SO that story didnt help me much. My dogs are a BIG HELP with letting me know everything they hear but I am still a nervous wreck. I try to make myself not worry or think about it, but usually, it doesnt work.

Re: Home Invasions
yup! which is why on the "do you keep your front door open?" thread i wrote that my door is always locked! i'm especially paranoid for my parents who live in east meadow ever since there was a home invasion in that town a while back. i ALWAYS yell at them not to leave the front door open unless the glass door is locked! even then i'm scared that someone will see that its just the 2 of them and take advantage!

Re: Home Invasions
I don't live in the area, but there was a home invasion in the town I work in last week. A big (not that big, but kind of big) celebrity had her home invaded and she was held prisoner and all that stuff...Anyway, I don't worry about it. Just keep your doors locked, which one would hope most people do anyway, use common sense when someone you don't know comes to the door and be careful in general.
Just because one has happened, doesn't mean that a rash of them are going to break out all over...

Re: Home Invasions
I was robbed last week (while we were sleeping). Previously, I was very lax about the front and back doors. Needless to say, I've changed my perspective a bit and now I'm neurotic.
I'm hoping that within the next week or so I'll get up my nerve to be OK staying home by myself....until then, I'm a nervous wreck. All doors are locked - - but if someone wants in, they'll find a way.

Re: Home Invasions
no- this isn't something I worry about now- I live in a doorman building - so it's not easy to get into -
and my DH is crazy and would love for someone to try to break in

Re: Home Invasions
I sleep alone a lot too-and I used to be SO afraid that I barely got any sleep. I have gotten used to it now though- after doing it for so long.
The other thing that helps is that I have my hubby's off duty gun in my bedroom and I know how to use it.
If anyone tries to come do me any harm- they better watch out- their head will be blown off faster than you can say dirtbag!!
