Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
If you have an alarm, do you keep it armed when you are IN the house?
I seem to see people quickly disarm it when entering their homes, but doesn't that defeat the purpose?
Is there something I'm missing

We keep it on when we're sleeping, but not when we're awake.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Mine isnt on when we are home during the day. I arm it when I leave. I have something like 30 sec to turn it off when I come home. At night its set to instant, so if anything moves or opens,it goes off. I also have a special code to push, should i get jumped in my driveway and forced into the house. That code goes straight to 911.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Sometimes. If my DH is working late and it's dark I set the alarm in "stay" mode so we are free to move about the house but all windows and entrances are armed, however, you still get the 30 seconds when coming thru the front door to disarm the system. I also set it in this mode when I take a shower and I am home alone. For one, I just feel safer and for two, god forbid my DD should try to open a door and get out while I am in the shower I would know.
When we go to bed at night the alarm is set to "instant" mode which means if any door or window is slightly opened the alarm will be tripped. When we go out it is always set too with the motion detector as well.
Clearly, we use the heck out of our alarm system.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Like a PP, mine has different modes.
When we are home and awake, it's usually on and on "stay". Doors and windows activated, motion sensors are not. I want it on when I'm home for several reasons. One is obviously a break in. Other is I want to know if one of my kids open a door. They know they're not supposed to open a door or go outside on their own, but I'm not taking that chance.
Then there's away mode. Everything's on instant, motion sensors are activated. At night, it's a separate button, but the same idea- everything is instant, and motion sensors are on.

Well even if you want to keep it on while at home, you'd still have to disarm it when you enter to prevent it from going off. Then you would just reset it to a STAY mode.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Ironically if we are ALL home, no we don't keep it on if we are up and awake. If we nap or go to sleep its set to 'no entry delay' so if you open a door the alarm goes straight to full on and contacting cops type.
If I am home alone with her or if he is home alone with her (or either of us without her) we both set the alarm but allow it to have the delay so the other has time to walk in and disarm it.
I dont know why we fell into that habit but the ONLY time its not arms is if BOTH of us are home together (with or without her).

We have it set at all times. I'm a little paranoid about security, so it's pretty much Fort Knox around here.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
when i open my door, i have to enter my code within 60 secs or the company will call to see if cops need to be dispatched. i can then turn the alarm back on after entering my code.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Ours is always fully armed when we are not home. We have to disarm it upon entry or the alarm will be triggered.
It is always on at night and often when we are home during the day.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
ours is ALWAYS set when we leave, even if it's to run to the store down the block
when we're both home, during the day we keep the doors/windows open, so no it's not on
once it gets dark we shut the doors and lock them
when we go to bed we have one button that turns on just our doors and windows, but not our motion detectors

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Not sure why we even have one cause we never use it.
Its sometimes on when we are sleeping. Never on during the day even if we are at work.
I personally never wanted it but DH thought it would be a good idea. I do not feel unsafe in my house. If I did I would not be living there.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
I dont keep it on during the day when I am home. we set it at nite when we sleep, and when we are out.
we have sensors on the doors (front and side entrance to our garage that is in the house); I think even if i kept it alarmed with motion off, i would have to disarm every time i opened the door and i would probably forget and trip the alarm all day.

Re: Home security alarm question that I can't figure out
Ours is always on when no one is home. Then when we get home we usually turn it off. Then when we go to bed it's on again in Stay mode.
Soon Im going to start turning the chime function on. The alarm itself isn't on but whenever a door or window is opened it chimes to let you know. That way I'll know if anything is opened but I dont have to worry about disarming and arming it every time I want to go in or out. Plus with having the kids and a pool it's just another preventative for them getting near it.

We keep it on when we're sleeping, but not when we're awake.
This... but when we are awake i have it on Chime, so when you open a door it makes a noise
