Home Security Cameras
We are in the beginning stages of figuring out what to get (for outdoors).
Any tips or features you have and love or don't have and wish you did?
Our security company (small family owned company who we trust if that matters, not an ADT or slomans type place) quoted us a price that seemed high, and we have friends and family who paid 1000s less then we were quoted and are happy. So not sure what to do.
Thanks !

Home Security Cameras
We just put them up. Bought them at Best Buy. Arlo. They're wireless, so there is zero installation. They're amazing.

Re: Home Security Cameras
We have Arlo as well although got a small discount bc my brother works at Best Buy. Love them. We even bought them and installed them at my parent's home overseas as well (Portugal).

In all honesty; for the quotes you are getting to have someone install them for you; in addition to buying the cameras; you are better off buying Wireless and install them yourselves. They are a little more pricey; but probably cheaper for you; since you would not need to hire anyone to install. Very easy! The wireless brand to look into is Arlo.

Do you have the pro or the original? I have the original that takes the CR123 and we change batteries every couple of months. The batteries are expensive though! I was paying like $15 for 2 and they take 4! BUT, I found them on Amazon...less than $20 for like 10 or something, and they have good reviews.

We have the Pro. They take one each; but they are rechargeable. I have a feeling the outside ones might go thru a little more.

Re: Home Security Cameras
We went through our security company. It wasn't cheap because we got specific types, night vision, zoom, data storage, etc.

Re: Home Security Cameras
Dumb question...when you say you installed them, does that mean you drilled them into the siding on the house?

The holder for the Arlo drills into the siding. I'm not sure how else you would stick them up. They have night vision, you get immediate notifications on your phone and via email when it detects motion. You can set the recording length. You get free storage in their cloud. It's a great system.

Re: Home Security Cameras
Do those of you with the motion alerts find in going off in the middle of the night for things like a raccoon or your neighbor's cat? That would drive me nuts.

No, you can set the sensitivity to it.

Same here! What are you being quoted? For 8 cameras, we paid $5,800, plus monitor etc. thought that seemed high but i knew the guy was reliable as i went to H.S. with him.

I put my phone on silent at night, but I haven't had this happen because we have the sensitivity set to like 60% or something. We do get deer on there at night...they like to eat our shrubs

Ha! If we had a deer in south western Nassau that would be something I would want to be alerted for!
