how many houses did u look at before u found "the one"?..lol

i'm asking bc I have been searching online and looking for about a month now and recently we went to see a house and has really interested us but its the first has we have physically seen....would that be wrong of us to make an offer on the first house we've seen eventhough we both realllllllllllllllllllly like it?

ETA: OK SO WE WENT BACK TO THE HOUSE TO SHOW THE PARENTS...WE ENDED UP NOT LIKING THE FACT THAT EVERYONE ON THE BLOCK PARKS THEIR CARS ON THE FRONT PATIO OF THE HOUSE....IT JUST MAKES THE BLOCK LOOK CONGESTED AND MESSY...HUGE NEGATIVE FOR US...WE ALSO THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND THE BASEMENT WOULD NEED TO BE DUG OUT BC DH IS TOO TALL AND CANT STAND UPRIGHT DOWN THERE AND THE BIG NEGATIVE FOR ME IS THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE BATHROOMChat Icon SOOOOOOOO LOOKS LIKE U GIRLS WERE RIGHT WE ARE OFF TO LOOK AT MORE HOUSES PRAY THAT THERE ARE MORE TO LOOK AT IN OUR PRICE RANGE THOUGHChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: homeowners

I would say about 80. No I am not exaggerating.

If would look at a few more houses.. just to make sure this is the one for you. I am not talking 80, lol, but maybe another 2 or 3.

yeah 80 is a lot.. its a long story...
we had a budget on the small side as well.
the way the market is today i would look at a few more and if you don't like anything better then you can come back to the original house. houses aren't exactly flying off the market these days, you know?
did you see the house you love in an open house?

Re: homeowners

we are in the middle of closing on a house and we looked at about 80 also. Try going to open houses, it's easier to seem multiple in one day. We were looking in a certain price range too, so I understand. Keep looking on MLSI.com. Good Luck in your search. And if you love that house, then go for it. Chat Icon

the reason I asked about the open house was to then ask if you if there were a lot of people there. If there was no one at the open house, I would feel even more confident about looking around a little more without thinking I might lose the other one if I didn't act fast.

Re: homeowners

We looked at almost 200 houses - about 180. That number does not include the drive-bys we did (driving by a house that looked good on mls but didn't work for us upon seeing it). We put in a total of 8 offers...2 got accepted - we walked away from one and bought the 2nd.

It was a grueling 16 month process and in the end, we bought the house right next door to where we had been living for the previous 6 years Chat Icon (I laugh now...not so much then Chat Icon ) But we learned a lot about the whole process and was (sort of) worth it.

If you love the house, getting your feet wet by putting an offer in wouldn't hurt. Go for it - don't show your cards (meaning, how much you want the house). You have to be able to walk away at any time...it's the nature of the "game".

Good luck!

Re: homeowners

We had a limited area we were searching as well. DH wanted a certain town because of the public golf course there. I limited it down to one "village" in the town because it was the only one with a train (we're in Rockland County).

I had done a lot of searching online and found that only 3 types of houses fit our price range - capes, ranches, and old dilapidated looking ones.

I looked physically at three houses (one of each type) and DH looked at one (the one we bought).

Since we were limited, we compared the house we ended up buying to what we had seen online and it was better than anything we had come across (on a great residential street, perfect yard, 2 full baths that didn't need to be renovated) so we decided that we didn't need to look any further.

well that gives me a tad bit of hope...Chat Icon ...we too are looking only in bayside bc thats where we really want to live and it is one of the more expensive parts of queens and the price range we are looking in is the much lower end of the spectrum soooooooooo we are very limited as to the amount of houses available to look at....to be specific there are only 5 houses on the market in bayside that fit our criteria....only 3 we found nice....one needed a lot of work and went temp off the market when we were gonna look at it....the other is a bad location literally n the highway and the other is THE house that we are sooooooooooo interested in

Re: homeowners

I really don't remember how many houses we looked at total, but it's probably around 40. Part of this wasn't so serious though--DH and I checked out lots of towns, and we would usually check out a couple open houses in each town, just to get an idea of what you would get for your money. Some of the houses we liked, but we ruled the towns out for various reasons.

I would look at a few more, even if this house is in a town you know you would like to live in.

Re: homeowners

We looked at about 35-50 I would say? It was about 3.5 years ago so I don't exactly remember. I wouldn't bid on the first house I saw...I think it takes a few to see what you really really want. Consider how many bathrooms, neighbors, any upgrades it would need, the school system etc.

We had been to quite a few open houses, but we did put an offer on the first house we asked our realtor to take us to look at. We walked in and just knew it was home Chat Icon

if you're not in a rush, see what else comes on the market. if you know that this is the right house, put in a bid and see what happens!

i'd say 20 tops. we fell in love with the first house we saw and thought about making an offer, but at the time we didn't have our current home on the market yet so we didn't. looking back, i'm SOOOO glad we didn't get that house. it was a nice house, but we really needed to see more of what was out there to compare. i LOVE the house we bought!

Re: homeowners

We probably looked at about 50-75 houses. We thought 2 others were the one before we found our house. I would try to look at a few others before you make a decision. The more houses we looked at the more we knew what we wanted.
