homeowners insurance -- living by water
I was just told that a number of insurance companies are no longer insuring homes that are within a 3 mile radius of water!
Help...what am I supposed to do? If you live near water, who are you insured by?

have you talked to State Farm?
All state wont insure ANYONE on LI anymore for a new policy - so oh well, they are losing mine and FH's car and life insurance then too

We live one mile from the Great South Bay and have our insurance with Liberty Mutual. We just switched in February, so I'm pretty sure they will still give coverage.

Good to know - the house we are buying is def in a 3 mile radius. I guess I will have to start shopping around!

They won't take me -- they didn't even get up to the water. They said (can't remember which) it's because they've reached their quota of NYS people or East Rockaway people.

We have libery Mutual. I had no idea we needed fload insurance but apartenty we are within 2 miles from water (dont know where since I live in Farmingdale  ) Anyway I would try them
