Homes that come w/ Washer & Dryers...

Did you or have you or will you keep them if they are in fairly NEW condition? Or regardless of how new they are, you would still get new ones b/c it would skeeve you out to keep the ones the owner used?

If you did decide to keep them, how would you clean the inside of the dryer?

The washing machine I can see using like 5 loads of HOT water w/ a 1/2 bottle bleach each time.

I'm running one load of wash with bleach and hot water to just disinfect the insides of the washer.

As for the dryer. My MIL sugested I rub all the sides with a cloth thta has bleach or vinegar on it to clean it out.

I'll replace them when they die - I just don't have the $$ to shell out on this.

We'll be keeping them since we don't have the money to replace them now.

Thanks for the helpful cleaning tips!

Re: Homes that come w/ Washer & Dryers...

The washer that came with the house was only 4 years old (we found the receipt) however it was a top loader and we wanted a front loader. So we bought new.

The previous owner didn't use dryers - she hung everything to dry...so we obviously bought one of those too.

Honestly, even if her machine was a brand new front loader, it would skeeve me to use it. But I'm a germaphobe like that.

We're not sure what we're going to do. The one in our house is fairly new...just small and not really energy efficient.
I'd say we're going to replace them within the next year.

We'll probably run a load without clothes first, but at the same time...what's really the difference from using this compared to doing laundry at the laundromat?Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can't remember right now but one was very old and one a few years old. Considering how gross this house was kept and that we were gutting everythingChat Icon we threw them out.

Re: Homes that come w/ Washer & Dryers...

We used the ones that came with our house for 5 years before they broke.

I wouldn't worry about the dryer. The heat in there is enough to have killed anything.

You could probably just put a wet towel in there on the highest heat to steam anything out if you really wanted to.

Re: Homes that come w/ Washer & Dryers...

Actually we kept ours.
I wanted to throw them out - it just grossed me out to even look at them.

My SIL came over and cleaned them up and they looked brand new.

But quite honestly, when we get some extra money - we are getting new ones.
I think the washer is too small and they dryer takes FOREVER to dry Chat Icon

I didn't think about this, but now that you mention it, I probably will clean them out. We would keep them. They aren't brand new, but they're not that old either, and we'll spend so much money initially.

Yeah, I was thinking of the laundromat thing. We use the washer and dryer in our building now, along with others in our co-op, and I guess I'm just used to sharing these things.
